Is it just me who is giggling like a loon at this?

From An article in the Guardian about Woolworths:

Norma Woods, a cleaner, had come in for hair straighteners but they didn't have any so she bought two irons instead for £3.98 each. "I reckon I have saved a pound," she said.

Now that is a funny image ! LOL !

Although my Mother often tells me the story of how her sister used to iron her hair for her in the 60's between sheets of brown paper :)

I am in despair about Woolworths. Where, oh where, will I go when I want toothmugs, or a jigsaw puzzle, or screws/nails/stick-on hooks or all the 101 other things that one goes to Woolworth's for, as long as the queues aren't too bad; and at ours they are usually out the door!

Have you got a Wilkinsons? I think ours has taken a lot of trade from Woolworths, particularly as it's at the bus station end of town and near the market, whereas Woolies is right down the far end. But they are where I seem to get almost everything like that these days, and toiletries too.

I know! I felt really quite sad wandering around our local branch the other day; all the aisles emptying... I used to go to Woolies as a kid with my pocket money and come out with a CD single, some pick 'n' mix and a comic.

Ah,Woolies pick 'n' mix.Fond memories...

It was always the first shop my brother wanted to go in when we were on holiday 'has it got a woolies, can we go in?'his little voice would plead whilst he tugged at Mum or Dad's sleeve.
It will be missed by many.
