There are so many regional stereotypes in the Philippines, from the kuripot (stingy) Ilokanos, to the malambing (sweet) Ilonggos, to the mayabang (flashy) Kampangans. Both my parents are from Pampanga, and besides being mayabang (I think that only applies to the males, no?), the women are supposedly very good cooks. Addtional emphasis on supposedly

My dad is from Pampanga. He's THE cook in the family. Everything he makes is good but my mom makes a few good things herself.

I am better at baking than making food but I can follow a recipe and the most important part is I know what good food tastes like.

Oh yeah, my dad's a great cook, too! Maybe that stereotype (about great Kapampangan cooking) applies to men, not women? A's a great cook, too (which is partly why I leave the cooking mostly to him), so maybe it's a Filipino guy thing? I dunno.

HA! Mike's parents are Kapampangan, and the stereotypes are true!!!!

Mike's dad, I have to say, is one of the better cooks I know. I think it also has to do with his training as a cook in the US Navy.

I'm starting to think more and more that it's a Filipino guy thing. But of my two brothers, only one can cook. Ahh, so there goes that theory. As for the stereotypes, I think the reverse is true for my parents. My dad can cook, and my mom is mayabang. Haha!

densho's kapampangan but i don't think he's mayabang, although he's been convincing me otherwise (hehe). his mom and lola are excellent cooks. he CAN cook (love his salmon!) but his sisters don't cook though.

And to think, all these years, my mom had to defend herself! lol
