Speaking of books

So did I mention that I received pretty much every book on my wishlist this Christmas? Well sometime this year I got on a Laura Ingalls Wilder kick and put a whole bunch of her writings and biographies on my list, so at Christmas I was engulfed. I just finished the first book (no reading hasn't been a priority right now), but I thought I would ( Read more... )

I *heart* the LOH series. I re-read them so many times as a kid. I'd like to buy G the series - part of me would love to get it now and read the stories myself.

I also have other Laura Ingalls Wilder books - maybe we could compare our collections some time.

I read the series through at least 7 times when I was young, and I still have them somewhere around here. I think you could start reading them to her aloud by the time she is 4, and don't see why you shouldn't have them for her now. Scholastics usually has a good deal on them - the complete series for $20.

I would love to compare and share. When I get the chance I will write down which ones I got.

I also love LOH - have you seen the watered-down versions for little kids? B&N has them. I read them to A when we go, and she asks questions that I think are quite good for a child her age who has no experience living on a farm. :)

I think I may add those books to A's list as her birthday approaches, but someday I would like to get her a set of the real LOH series (though something tells me I already have it in the attic, waiting for her).

I also have the first book (I believe) written by her daughter, Rose.

For some reason, I always found it sad that she doesn't have any grandchildren and her sisters never had any kids or grandkids... I used to do a lot of family tree stuff, and I found it sad that her family ended like that...

I think we would have never known about her, had her daughter not lived the life she lived. I believe she very much convinced her mom to tell her stories.

It is sad that there aren't any decendants though, but it means alot of her works and materials have been saved and perserved in museums.
