Les Miz is closing in March. In other words, I'll never get to see it in NYC again. Wibble.

I spent about an hour t00bing around the first fandom I ever really played in online - the one for the (admittedly in retrospect dumb) british 70's sf show The Tomorrow People, which I fell for when it aired on Nickelodeon back in the v. early 80s, way back ( Read more... )

Belle and Sebastian?! *jaw drops* I used to love that show, and you are only one of a handful of other people who seem to know about it. I've asked so many people if they remember it, and almost no one does. This made my day :)

Okay - so we have differing opinions about Les Miz...

but I had totally forgotten about the Tomorrow People. I too was 11 and saw it on Nickelodeon...
I was totally hooked. Gosh - I loved that show. I was raised by anglophiles though - so I was getting BBC'd to death anyways. What was the thing they used to do to "apparate"? Jaunting or something? funny - I never made the connection between HP and that. Brilliant! Heidi I just love you! there is a fandom? HP is my first fandom...

Belle & Sebastian - I used to watch it with my little brother - and too this day I still want a great pyrenees dog or a newfie (padfoot?)

also did you know there is a band called "Belle & Sebastain" they are rather sweet and popular among the hipster crowd...

I wish I had known Heidi when we were 11...

The website is at http://66.66.192.162/tp/default.htm - it's called Teleporter Take-Out. The episode guide is here and there used to be a mailing list as well - it's now a Yahoogroup, it seems. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thetomorrowpeople/

I wish I'd known you when I was 11 too - sometimes I wish there had been an internet when I was in junior high school and later - I wouldn't've had to drive twenty miles to the import record store, or order magazines from Record Runner in NYC, and I would've had people to share by obscure obsessions with. Nobody I grew up with wanted to listen to Aztec Camera or Prefab Sprout - it wasn't until I got to college that I met anyone else who had ever heard of such things...

I now have a mad urge to listen to "appetite" by Prefab Sprout or "Life in a Northern Town" by the Dream Academy and watch the DVD's of the TP...

back to work...

The Third Eye was *such* a wierd show; I loved it. And Belle & Sebastian - ever since my son started watching shows like Pokemon etc in which the characters' mouths just sort of stay open while the voice-over actor talks reallyreallyreallyreally fast, I've been feeling all nostalgic about B & S. Loved it, too. And had a crush on Alastair on You Can't Do That On Television. Can't remember what he looks like; I really hope he wasn't actually a strange-looking goober....

Ahh. *waxes nostalgic*

Also back in the day when Nickelodeon stopped broadcasting at 6 pm. ;) I loved You Can't Do That On Television. And Danger Mouse, too.
