NZ Performing Arts under Attack!

Today the University of Canterbury announced its intention to 'disestablish' the Department of Theatre and Film Studies. It is suggested these disciplines are not 'core' to the College of Arts' work... though Music and Fine Arts are! It seems clear that the Universities executive are out of step

I know. It sucks. I think they were the first TAFS program in NZ. Also, if you want to teach high school drama, they want you to take a 2nd year theatre paper.
American Studies is on the cut list too - which is ridiculous because so much good theory has come from AMST.

They are proposing cutting about 13 staff - most (if not all) are from TAFS and AMST.
