My net was down all weekend, which turned out to be not as annoying as usual. I had a really great weekend, and even have a sunburn to prove it.

1.) Got our garden started. Man. It's going to be HUGE. We usually have 4 seperate plots for fruit/veg, but we've decided to become serious farmers this year, and have one gigantic main plot. We're ( Read more... )

Hee, thanks! It's a lot of work, but definitely worth it.

Have you tried doing potted vegetables? Like tomatoes/peppers? They do great in pots.

I may have to try that! My hubby loves tomatoes (I refer to them as the "vile red fruit of the devil" but he loves them) and fresh ones are really better than the store bought variety. Since our town's farmers market is made of fail that would be an excellent alternative.

Mind if I pick your brain? I'm going to ask even if you do mind... :P
Do tomatoes need a lot of direct sunlight? We have only western facing windows in our apartment and they are somewhat blocked by the garage, so my plants don't often get a huge amount of sun, even though I keep the shades open as much as possible during the day.

Oh yeah, fresh tomatoes are 100x better than greenhouse/store bought. I spend all winter wailing about tasteless tomatoes, lol.

They do need full sun, but you can get by with less if you plant a variety with smaller fruits like cherry or grape. Those do the best in pots, too...there are several varieties that are more bushy than vine and that's what you would want. Probably 4 hours of sun a day would be fine for those. Anything bigger is going to need at least 6 hours a day.

Decided to turn the backyard into an orchard. Excellent! For some reason the apricots at the supermarket never taste as good as the ones from the tree in our backyard...Mmmmm the goodness of organic stuff!

LOL I cannot knit to save my life, somehow it always ends up being a messy tangle...I lack patience. And also coordination skills with knitting needles? Eh. Something is missing...
