My net was down all weekend, which turned out to be not as annoying as usual. I had a really great weekend, and even have a sunburn to prove it.

1.) Got our garden started. Man. It's going to be HUGE. We usually have 4 seperate plots for fruit/veg, but we've decided to become serious farmers this year, and have one gigantic main plot. We're going to use the small beds for peppers and more delicate stuff like carrots and radishes, but everything else is going in the main plot. We've planted 30-something rows so far...which is not quite half. Heh.

2.) Decided to turn the backyard into an orchard. Peaches, pears, apricots, pecans, and if I can convince Chris, some figs. He hates them, but I let him grow lima beans which *I* hate, so I think it's only fair.

3.) Decided it's time to actually put some real fish in the pond. We have some small perch in there now, but we're going to seed it with bass, and possibly catfish. I told Chris I would catch, he had to clean. I love fishing, but you couldn't pay me enough to make me touch a fish once it's on my hook. >.>

4.) We're getting CHICKENZ. For eggs, not for frying. >.>

5.) Basically all this means that calixa is probably going to call me Martha Stewart/pioneer woman even more than she usually does. And I will be canning things. A lot. And probably end up covered in one giant freckle. Whee!

6.) I got more knitting done! Half a sock, hooray. :D

SO. Does anybody know of any good communities for this kind of stuff? I know about gardening and organic_garden, but I want some more stuff on canning/soapmaking/homesteading etc, etc.

Notice the complete interest switch? Yeah. I knew the BSG obsession would die off once the season started. Not that I don't still love it, obviously, but i'm not completely consumed with it anymore. >.>
