Victoria is two months old, and yesterday was my first day back at work. Thinking about it was so much harder/worse than the day and deed itself. First of all, for all of their disorganization, my company was pretty flexible with my comeback plan. The big bummer was that everything was completely unpaid. The upside is that under FMLA I was able to ( Read more... )

She is pure Carey, and this is both enchanting and frustrating for some reason.

I relate to this so hard. Sam looked like Matt for what seemed like forever, and everyone always commented on it, and while I loved having a tiny version of him to cuddle, I really longed to have somebody recognise me in his features. Now his face has evolved to look like neither of us and both of us at the same time, and I think I'm slowly letting go of the need to be so obviously his mum.

I'm so pleased to hear that you guys have help from Carey's mom, and that it's been low key and not adding too much to the stress of the return to work. It sounds like you've got this. :)

I think he looks like you! It's the shape of the eyes, for sure!

Such a lovely update - you talked about all the things I was wondering about hahahahaha. I'm glad things are going so well, overall.

Thanks. They are going alright, incredibly. The key is to deal with each little thing individually. Otherwise, I start looking for a paper bag to breathe into.

There's a theory that babies come out looking like their fathers so the fathers will take to them. Mothers will love them no matter what, but some kind of evolutionary defense for the infants to resemble their fathers predominantly in the beginning.

It sounds like you're all settling in and adjusting to parenthood in the best of all ways. Yay, Victoria!

Is she going to be a Vicki? Or a TORI!

I'll never call her Vicki. She was named after my Aunt Vicki, and I see my aunt when I say that nickname. We thought we'd wait and see her personality and what she prefers. I like V, Vi, Vic, and Tori. But I also love using her full name. I say it like a caress. I've got it baaaaaaddd for this girl.

Good luck on your return to work, and I'm happy to read that your little girl is doing well. Reading these post reminds me of us raising our little one! Those first few months are a definite change and absolutely precious! I've been meaning to write a post about recommended baby-stuff for around the house, which might be of use to you as the year progresses!
