I absolutely love Greek mythology! That was my favorite part of my Ancient Greek class in high school :) I really miss that class! Our teacher had such a passionate way of telling us the stories... I love them! It's too bad all the myths end up in blockbuster movies these days (except Troy, which is my guilty pleasure!)

Greek mythology is very appealing. You had Ancient Greek in high school? That's unusual, I'm assuming it wasn't a required-for-all course.
Popular culture in general tends to simplify the myths, or make them more family-friendly. Writers can't seem to stop interfering with what works. The Disney version of Hercules showed a blatant disregard for almost all the mythological characters. I get it that there has to be a villain in a Disney movie, but why pick on Hades? He was a perfectly friendly god, as far as I know.
I don't think I've seen Troy. I used to love Lou Ferrigno as Hercules when I was a kid. Especially the mechanical monsters, that looked like they were built with Legos. Oh boy...

It was an optional course, yes. But here in Belgium, it's not as unusual to have Ancient Greek or Latin as options :)
I haven't even seen Hercules, but my teacher told us not to watch it and that it was a horrible interpretation of the myth! I guess I'm too scared to watch it now lol!

I think Latin is more popular in the southern and western parts of Europe nowadays, what with French, Italian and Spanish being Roman languages and all. Are you Flemish or Walloon, btw? See, I know at least something about Belgium, besides the chocolate and Tintin, and Hercule Poirot, and les BD:). It's because I studied French for a couple of years at school. I've forgotten most of it by now:(.

I stopped watching House sometime around season 4 or so, so I never watched that episode. Is it airing at the same time as here? Last I heard there were only about four or so episodes left.

Now that you mention it simpleton really is an old-fashioned word. It doesn't seem like a word I'd come across in any of the books I tend to read.

Forgot to answer your question! No plans. I have the house to myself most of the weekend so I'll likely just read a lot. :)

We're a bit behind with House, season 6 is airing. For some reason, the DVD came out much earlier. So two more seasons left to watch. I really hope the series continues to my liking, but I have my doubts. It's been a little iffy from time to time. I blame the writers:). Or, more specifically, the fact that there are so many of them. It must be tricky to keep the tone of a show even somewhat consistent.
I've got the same sort of plans for the weekend. Just reading and relaxing...

Hmm.. I had this conversation several times with my friends and my family about "being dumb". I don't think I'm super intelligent but sometimes, I'd joke about wanting to be those students who don't worry about grades, get mediocre grades or fail classes and how they aren't expected to succeed to be a doctor, lawyer or any careers "like that". Usually this conversation comes up when we complain about university and how hard it is and wouldn't it be nice to just work at McDonald's forever and not have to worry about getting a major and etc. etc. etc. Hah! But if I had to choose, I wouldn't know which. I guess I'd rather be in the middle rather than really dumb or really smart.

Oh and how did that guy medically reduce his genius? And was he happy after all? (I stopped watch House after they took away his Vicodin LOL!)

I just finished a course on Greek and Roman Mythology! And it was... an interesting course. I like the stories but I didn't do so well because, honestly, I was really lazy. XD

The guy on House drank some sort of cough medicine, and then had a drink to help bind some of the harmful substances. When the doctors figured it out, he said he liked being dumb, so House told him to go right on, and to "tell your brain goodbye from me". I don't know if it made him happy in the long run, but at least he expected to be happy.
I guess there are as many ways to be happy as there are people. There's nothing to prevent you from getting a job flipping burgers, although you get a Master's degree. But having a degree means you have more options. I miss being a student sometimes. That feeling of learning new stuff and actually knowing a lot will never return...
