You know, I'm not too bothered by the Buffy-sleeps-with-a-girl thing, but I think it's mostly because these characters are not my characters - sort of in the same way that the movie characters are not my characters. The definitive break for me came with bankrobbing!Buffy. THAT I found so horribly out of character that I couldn't even imagine what the hell Joss & Co. were thinking.

Someone in rahirah's post on the subject said something about how the characters sort of feel like the season 3/4 characters transported into the future, and to me that sounds about right. It feels sort of like the growth and maturity that came in seasons 5-7 is completely disregarded in the comics, and since that's the time that I actually start loving and relating to the characters, I feel completely disengaged from them ( ... )

That was when I really started to wonder what the hell he was doing. I should've quit then!

I agree with the entire 2nd paragraph. I always wondered what about them seemed off. And although I liked the show then, they weren't the characters, like you said, that I related to and really cared about.

it's going to take a MASSIVE effort on Joss' part to pull this together
Yup. And your solution is the ONLY solution at the point and he's too much of a baby to do it.

Seasons 4-5 are the transition period where I go from "oh, this is a fun show!" to "OBSESS! OBSESS! OBSESS!" It feels like having gone from delving as deep into a character's psyche as you can possibly go and then returning to the shallow end of the pool again. Thanks, but I'll stick with fanfic if I want to read about what happens next.

I might read the comics at some point, but I don't think it'll ever be more than another fanfic version of what could have happened. And a not very good one at that, most fanfic writers would never write them so out of character or so shallowly.

Exactly! I kept wondering what it was about season 8 was off and that's exactly what it is.

Definitely sticking with fanfic. It's better, anyway :)

I'm so bothered by Buffy's new sexual exploits. :\ It just doesn't seem like a logical progression of her character to do this. At all. I'm thinking I might start disregarding the comics as canon.

Right? It's not at all the progression her character on the show would take. I don't get what he's thinking!

I'm thinking I might start disregarding the comics as canon.
Absolutely. I'm right there with you. I've read better fanfic, anyway :)

Everyone hates it, too! No kerfuffling!

WHAT THE HELL IS HE THINKING???

Well, exactly what you said in the email is what he's thinking and it's totally a marketing ploy. It's completely unnecessary.

just sent me this link (big honkin' spoilery pic) and um, what the huh?

what. the. FUCK?! i'm so glad i'm not reading the comics because that is just complete and utter bullshit. having Willow "turn" gay was one thing, but jesus, Joss. not everyone in the universe is bisexual. despite what Torchwood wants you to believe.

completely and utterly ridiculous.

Exactly! It is complete bullshit.

Willow was one thing - although I will always say that she loved Tara and loving one woman does not a lesbian make and they had to throw Kennedy to torture us but that's not the issue. The whole thing is lame.

I freely admit that sometimes I can be a big baby, but World War Z scared me. It made me think that the WORLD WAS GOING TO END! WOE! AND I MUST PREPARE FOR THE APOCALYPSE! Yeah. I'm a big baby.
