Last night was the first time I've watched American Idol. I had to for research for an article I wrote for tomorrow's edition of the paper. I must say, I wasn't impressed, for the most part, with anyone, but I think Mandisa has a set of pipes. Elliott, also, offered a good performance. Kellie Pickler's "I'm such a fish out of water" act is REALLY annoying. Ace is so damn full of himself that I doubt he even knew he's sung horribly.
This year is the first time I've watched it and it sucked me in and now I'm its minion and its whore. It's terrible, really. Last night was particularly awful so don't base anyone on that. Mandisa is fine...I'd prefer her to sing than scream a la Mariah. Like that makes you a better singer or something but it's just no personal taste. Pickler's awful. And I love Elliott...as long as he doesn't smile! Ick, Ace. Bah.
I didn't watch at all last year. I was so MAD when Fantasia "I've had such a horrible life and my hometown is horrible" Barino beat my Diana DeGarmo two years ago that I vowed to not watch again. Unfortunately, I had to watch for research (and because a group of kids made me). Now it's all exploded and I've been challenged to a sing-off at an AI karaoke party, and I'm quaking in my boots trying to figure out how to fairly out-sing a 9-year-old kid. Go figure.
I hate the song Elliott sang, but he performed well. That little Paris twit was playing dress-up and acting like Beyonce. Most of the time I have to agree with Simon. Lisa Tucker's performance was so very painful I plugged my ears!
