New In Town - OTA

Riley closed the door and leaned back against it. It had been a long night but at least Gabriel had been cleared and the deep mole exposed. Another beer probably wouldn’t be bad or a long hot shower, maybe both - definitely both, she thought as she pushed herself off the door and headed toward the kitchen first ( Read more... )

Derek is just getting re-settled in town as it were. He was actually glad to be back because Mia was here. He was running along the lake when he saw the woman just appear and noted her confusion. He slowed down and raised his hand in a non-threatening matter. It was clearly a law enforcement tactic.

"Hello there. I'll just go out on a limb and welcome you to Haurvatat."

Riley didn't let her muscles relax but she did notice the body language of the man screamed cop. Just as her stance probably mostly likely screamed Secret Service. Even if she was ex- it was always ingrained in her.

"Haurvatat? Is that the name of this place?"

Sam was out clearing his head when he spotted a woman popping up rather quickly on a nearby bench. Yes, it was the fact that she was attractive that drew his eye first but it was the fact that she looked so confused that kept him watching.

He knew that look, after all.

Veering towards her, he offered a gentle smile when she finally looked over at him. She was tense enough that he worried she might attack him for approaching and so he lifted his hands to show her that he was unarmed.

"Are you okay?"

Riley watched him approach. As Secret Service you always had threat assessment on the forefront of your mind and while she could see the danger in his nonchalant approach, it wasn't predatory. She returned the smile, hers somewhat wry.

"If by okay, you mean totally freaking out, then yes I am. Where is this exactly?"

Sam caught the way she studied him but he tried not to think much about it. Right now she needed some help and, as much as he hated to be the one to greet newcomers, he would help her.

"It's called Haurvatat." His smile was somewhat apologetic. "And it's going to sound crazy but this place is kind of a magical pocket dimension sort of place. Which I know makes me sound crazy but it's true."

It wasn’t any more crazy than the US government putting a microchip in a human’s brain. “So I either got picked up by a tornado that I didn’t see or feel and dropped in Oz or I stumbled down the rabbit hole. I’m going to guess option 2.” Or she had a brain aneurism and this was the result. That could happen, too and was more likely than door numbers one and two.
