Red tried not to think about being alone again when she'd noticed that Jiminy was gone. What was it about her that she couldn't learn whatever it was she was supposed to learn? Or if that wasn't it, why had all of her friends left and she was still captive in the village?

It took awhile for her eyes to focus on the person ahead of her rather than her thoughts. She still didn't recognize them, only that they seemed to be in trouble.

"Are you alright?" She asked as she picked up her pace to intercept.

The voice and the sight of her drew Kili to a staggered stop, landing on his bad leg and hissing, shifting his weight to his good one. "Red," he breathed out, feeling something swell in his chest. He started toward her again, as quickly as he could manage. "Red! It's me! It's Kili!" Had she already forgotten him? The idea cut him to the quick.

"Kili?!" And it was a Kili that knew her, even better. Red hurried to close the distance between them. The smell of his blood fresh on the air much more now that her mind wasn't fogged with thoughts.

"What's wrong? What happened?"

"Orc arrow," he explained, breathless as he all but crashed into her, hands on her arms.

He was suddenly conscious of how he must look; how he must smell. She was, if possible, even prettier. "I'm fine."

Or he would be.

Legolas spotted the dwarf heading toward the hotel (or rather, limping). His hand paused on the knob to the store, his eyes widening as he noted the injury on Kili.

"Kili! I can offer my assistance." Legolas easily fell into step beside him. "You are injured, what happened?"

Turning toward the voice, Kili felt something like a time-disconnect. He remembered Legolas from the village, but he also remembered Legolas from Mirkwood; the dwarf's jaw hardened. "Don't you remember?" he asked. "You were part of it, after all. You and the Orcs."

For a moment, Legolas was confused. "There were orcs in the village?" Why had he not sensed them? Then realization slowly dawned on the elf. "You left Haurvatat." It was a statement. "But the village brought you back..." He took in the injured leg. "Yes, I remember the fight in Lake-Town." He would not reveal much else than that. "Kili, I was different then...arrogant, ruthless, full of prejudice. I am no longer that elf." Much to Thandruil's dismay.

Which was part of what was causing Kili such confusion. He remembered the elf from here in the village and he had been kind.

But still, the dwarf was reckless and he stepped forward, chin thrust out. "When did you change? How? Did you change?"
