Softball Game (OTA - gathering)

[Brought forward to today to avoid clashing with the body-swap event that has been moved to next weekend! Please pretend it had been planned for this weekend all along.]
A diamond-shaped playfield had been marked off in the park with chalk-dust and even some flat stones had been put in place as bases, though on closer inspection they looked more  ( Read more... )

Faith was there, her son who would be two in nearly a week was there too. She had gotten him a small glove. He wouldn't be able to play in the actual game of course, but before it started she was playing catch with him with a baseball (the softball was much to large for his small hands).

He had to use his entire body as he fought to toss the ball. It took a large arc in the air and then landed only a few feet away from where he was standing.

But she clapped all the same, a proud mommmy, going to get the ball, "That's it Ed! Next thing you know you'll be playing for the Red Sox!"

"Hey, hey, seems a new baseball star is here, too," Jim said with a smile as he walked over to Faith. He gave Ed a thumbs-up sign.

Ed laughed, glove covering his face. Faith smiled at Ed, then Jim, "Yeah, he really wanted to play with us too, but I said it wasn't a good idea. But figured we could practice his throw before we started."

Jim laughed at Ed hiding behind his glove. As they had never met, it seemed a natural reaction. But the lad seemed lively enough. "We'll need to found a little league for him." Not that they had an adult league.

Softball/Baseball was something familiar from home that was not muddled in the advancement of technology. It helped that they were having the event outside rather than in a holosuite where they might plan in a large stadium that would take Eugene's breath away. Eugene liked simple.

He was in a simple white t-shirt and beige slacks as he approached the makeshift field. He would try to enjoy today and have some fun.

"Eugene!" Jim spotted him from his position under the tree and strolled over. "Glad ya could make it!" He was dressed similarly, only his t-shirt was a blue-ish gray, not white.

He smiled gently. "Looks like the village might keep it nice for us to play a game."

Jim checked the sky again. "Hopefully. Rain will play havoc with those lines," he explained. "Chalk." He looked back at Eugene. "Your mate coming, too?"

Maggie really doesn't want to miss this turn at softball, having missed the first one because of Dale and Andrea going back. One was too hard to deal with even though she hadn't known the man well.

Wearing shorts and a tank top (not really sure what she was supposed to wear to a pick-up game of softball), she has her own mitt and one for Glenn, thinking she may have talked him into it after all. It's a good day for a game, and she's glad, for more than one reason that she's stuck in the village.

Jim grins broadly when he spots Maggie. There's something amiss, though. "Hey," he calls from his perch under the tree, "where's the potato sack?"

Maggie laughs. "Boyfriend said no." Yeah, she was gonna go ahead and blame Glenn (with love).

Jim chuckled as he came closer. "What a bore," he teased. "You had such a good strategy worked up there." He had picked up a ball and tossed it at Maggie without warning.

Being from Iowa, Riley loved baseball. It was one of those things you were expected to do when you lived on the farm and Riley had loved to play it. That, and football. He was definitely what you could say an 'American Boy'

So he had his glove and sent a message out to Buffy, wondering if she'd be willing to play. Or watch. He enjoyed showing off in front of her.

Another one here to play! Jim was really happy about the number of people showing up for the game.

"Hey, I'm Jim Gutterman," he introduced himself. "Ready for some fun?"

He held out his hand to Jim. Riley had farm boy manners. "Riley Finn. And I am. I haven't played softball in a long time, but standing here now makes me realize I miss it."

Rather than play this time, Buffy was there to cheer on her fiance. When she spotted him in the park she pushed her sunglasses up on the top of her head, tucking her towel under her arm and headed over.

"Hey you."

Liz was feeling better today. In fact, it was as if she had never been sick. She decided that getting some fresh air would be a good thing and came across the softball game. She wasn't going to play - Liz wasn't exactly the best at sports - but she liked to watch it. At least it wasn't football.

She found a seat under some trees. It'd be nice to do something super normal.

Martin is out for some fresh air, too, when he spots the people playing ball in the park. Baseball? Something like that. Not being an American, he's not sure. But he's curious about what's going on and there's a young woman sitting close by who seems to be only watching, too.

"Do you mind?" He asks, pointing to a spot next to her in the shadow of the trees.

Liz glanced to where he pointed, mostly out of habit, then back to him with a smile and she shook her head. "No. Go right ahead. There's plenty of room and this tree doesn't seem to be a shedder."

Some of the others had little seeds they were occasionally dropping which Liz found distracting, especially when they got into your hair.

Martin promptly looks up, the idea of the tree dropping anything onto him hadn't even occurred to him. "Oh, that's good. Very nice." He sits down besides the young woman, but not too close to invade her private space.

"I thought I'd watch a bit, I've never seen a real game." He doesn't even know the rules.
