Day at the Beach [ota]

Lisbeth was not much of a sunbather, but she did enjoy the beach. She'd become quite fond of the ones in Grenada when she'd stayed there for a few months. The one at the village hardly compared. But it was enjoyable all the same. And it held a few good memories. Like the night she'd spent with Xas. Except he was gone now. But she wasn't going to ( Read more... )

Will had taken to avoiding the forest; too many bad memories, too many chances for flashbacks and hallucinations (even though he was better - no fever, no fuzziness, not really). So, often, he walked skirting the beach.

That would explain why King found Lisbeth first, walking up on quiet paws to sniff at her toes before sitting, looking toward where Will was.

Lisbeth. Will remembered her "offer," if that was what it was. Sex to help him sleep. He'd thought about it; he couldn't help thinking about it - he'd never had such an offer. Alana had deemed him too broken to be with. But Lisbeth hadn't. He kept a respectful distance in case she didn't want to be disturbed. "King," he said, but the dog didn't move from Lisbeth's feet.

Lisbeth stared at King first, watching as he sniffed her toes. Her sandals were kicked off and sitting beside her. She didn't reach out to pet him, she simply took note of his presence. She didn't dislike animals, but she viewed them with the same relative indifference that she did most people.

Maybe she'd be more of a cat person. A cat would be just as indifferent as her.

When Will spoke she finally noticed him too. She blinked looking up at him, "You have a very large dog."

"That's King," said Will, the corner of his mouth quirking. "I met him at the shelter on my first day." And the dog had as much adopted him as he'd adopted the dog; Will was grateful for that.

She nodded, closing her book and setting it beside her, "The name suits him."

Lisbeth tentatively reached out to offer her open palm to the dog for him to sniff.
