Day at the Beach [ota]

Lisbeth was not much of a sunbather, but she did enjoy the beach. She'd become quite fond of the ones in Grenada when she'd stayed there for a few months. The one at the village hardly compared. But it was enjoyable all the same. And it held a few good memories. Like the night she'd spent with Xas. Except he was gone now. But she wasn't going to ( Read more... )

Will had taken to avoiding the forest; too many bad memories, too many chances for flashbacks and hallucinations (even though he was better - no fever, no fuzziness, not really). So, often, he walked skirting the beach.

That would explain why King found Lisbeth first, walking up on quiet paws to sniff at her toes before sitting, looking toward where Will was.

Lisbeth. Will remembered her "offer," if that was what it was. Sex to help him sleep. He'd thought about it; he couldn't help thinking about it - he'd never had such an offer. Alana had deemed him too broken to be with. But Lisbeth hadn't. He kept a respectful distance in case she didn't want to be disturbed. "King," he said, but the dog didn't move from Lisbeth's feet.

Lisbeth stared at King first, watching as he sniffed her toes. Her sandals were kicked off and sitting beside her. She didn't reach out to pet him, she simply took note of his presence. She didn't dislike animals, but she viewed them with the same relative indifference that she did most people.

Maybe she'd be more of a cat person. A cat would be just as indifferent as her.

When Will spoke she finally noticed him too. She blinked looking up at him, "You have a very large dog."

"That's King," said Will, the corner of his mouth quirking. "I met him at the shelter on my first day." And the dog had as much adopted him as he'd adopted the dog; Will was grateful for that.

She nodded, closing her book and setting it beside her, "The name suits him."

Lisbeth tentatively reached out to offer her open palm to the dog for him to sniff.

Which King did, the licked her hand, his tongue nearly as large; Will smiled a little more. "He likes you." The dog had instincts about people: he liked Bruce, now Lisbeth.

She frowned when her hand was left soaking all the way to the dark band tattooed around on her wrist. Taking the hand back, she wiped it dry on her cut off shorts.

"I am very likeable." she commented, dryly. Lisbeth could joke sometimes.

"Me too," Will replied, that grin still threatening to grow. He took a few steps forward. "We won't bother you if you were reading."

"It's alright." she said before giving it much thought, surprising even herself. Lisbeth liked Will.

Which probably meant he was about to leave, she thought to herself silently.

"You can sit, if you want." there was some room on the towel she was seated on.

Will was pretty surprised too, actually. King stayed by Lisbeth's feet as if guarding them both as Will sat awkwardly, pulling his knees to his chest. "... thanks."

"Welcome." she mumbled out, shifting a bit to give him more room. Lisbeth wasn't very good with small talk, so after a few long moments of silence, she spoke, "How's your sleeping?"

"Um," Will said with a soft, dry laugh. "Pretty terrible. But it's always terrible. I don't think I've been sleepwalking though."

"My offer still stands." she commented, offhandedly.

Blink. Will looked out at the water. "I'm not sure having sex would make me sleep any better," he said quietly as King settled on his belly on the edge of the towel. "It's the - uh - dreams."

"About the serial killer?" she remembered him mentioning it.

"Garrett Jacob Hobbs," he supplied. "He killed young girls who looked like his daughter, then he cut them up, like he would a deer."

She didn't look particularly surprised or horrified, she just took in the details, "Did he eat them?"

You would eat a deer, presumably.
