Holiday Ball [[gathering post]]

As always this time of year, Laura's been busy getting the ballroom transformed for the annual holiday ball. As long as she's been here, there's been an adults only party of this sort, and this is the fourth now, that she's found the details on her plate.

She's spent two days decorating and getting all of the food organized, but the real task was

Sam knew how to keep his lady happy, and generally that involved putting on a nice suit (it wasn't even white she'd be so proud) and showing up at a large, fancy party to dance.

Free booze helped, so too did the fact that he'd seen the dress she was wearing.

He hung out at the bar near the entrance and awaited her arrival.

Said dress, is a little more...revealing than she'd normally wear. But strapless and showing off her legs seemed to be the call of the evening. Her hair's down for the evening, and when she'd styled it, realized that she hasn't cut it in a very long time. It's down to the middle of her back.

When she walks in, her eyes scan for only a minute before finding Sam, and she makes her way to him, a smile tugging at her lips.

"Now look how well you clean up..."

He laughed and gave her a slow once over, "You too Doc. Want a glass of wine?"

"I wouldn't say no to a nice Moscato," she says, "And then a spin around the dance floor."

Did Haymitch WANT to be here? No. Actually since he'd promised Rue he would take her and she was gone, he had no reason to be here except one.

Free booze.

That he's wearing the same suit he wore to Katniss and Peeta's wedding and he looks like he's shaved is neither here nor there. That's his story and he's sticking to it.

Effie was rather surprised to see Haymitch at the ball but she wouldn't make the assumption that she had anything to do with the reason why he was there. It was just easier not to assume anything with him.

Dressed in a long glittery gown, she approached him with a couple glasses of champagne before offering him one silently.

"The kids gone, guess I thought I'd come for her."

"I know." She murmured softly, sadly. "I keep thinking about how much she'd be enjoying herself if she was here."

Tis the season to put on something short, tight and shiny, fluff up the hair and jack up the tits.

She was dancing (without benefit of a partner), an obvious invitation for anyone who might be interested to join her.

She chuckled, a ginger, then she smiled.

"Of course I tango, doesn't everyone?"

"Unfortunately, in these degenerate times, whatever they are," Brigid proclaimed primly, "they do not. Although, that makes you an even more valuable person, so that's a plus." Brigid held out her hand, and bowed her head.

"Would you honor me with this dance?"

As he and Sarah walk into the party, he has a feeling of deja vu. They did this last year. The fact that he's been in the village for that long of a time still surprises him. Spencer straightens his back as he escorts Sarah through the door, wearing the tuxedo he found in his closet. He's still convinced that he's with the most beautiful woman in the room and that makes him the luckiest man.

Later, Spencer will be examining the architecture of the room and will probably look odd doing it. However, the sconces and columns are so intricate and unlike any that he's seen before. He stands near one of the columns, muttering numbers and calculations.

Wearing a blue gown, Sarah slides her arm through Spencer's as they walked into the room. It was breathtaking and her thoughts echoed his, in that she thought that she was the luckiest woman there.

"Have I mentioned how lucky I am to be with such a handsome escort tonight?"

Spencer grinned over at her. She looked stunning tonight.

"I've been told that I look nice in a tuxedo."

"You look very nice in a tuxedo. But then I'm biased and think that you look very nice in everything that you wear." Sarah squeezed his arm softly.

With work and two kids, it feels rare that Erica and John get a night out to themselves. Life is hectic, but a good hectic. A busy that she doesn't mind. Except when she hasn't danced with her husband in weeks.

So, she spends the day primping and prepping, nails manicured, legs smooth, and dress perfectly in place. She's letting John drop of Maddie and Angel at the daycare so that she can finish up with jewelry.

John donned a red tie with his suit, in honor of the occasion, and smiled as he re-entered the room, childless, seeing Erica decked out.

"You look amazing."

She's just slipping on a high heel and smiles at him, walking forward to straighten his tie. Not that it's crooked, she just enjoys being close.

"You happen to look very, very handsome. Did the kids go in alright?"

He gazes down at her with love, and a little bit of disbelief for his good fortune.

"It was like a big kid party in there. Every age group has their own bouncy castle, and new toys," John shook his head and laughed. "I was old news by the time I got them signed in."
