James had read through about half of the book on professional poker dealing and thought he had a pretty good grasp of things by now. He'd even bought a deck of cards and practiced a little. Lucifer had noticed the man the first time he came into the casino, but had simply observed. Now, when the man was back, his interest peaked, especially when he discovered he wanted a job.

Jerry appeared from one of the doorways dressed in an expensive-looking suit and walked over to where Jim was standing.

"Hi there." He said with a big, charming smile. "I heard you were looking for me."

Jim turned to face him and did his best to match the smile. "If you heard that, you must be Mr. Belvedere." He held out his hand. "James Gutterman, thanks for seeing me."

He shook Jim's hand firmly and nodded.

"Jerry Belvedere, it's nice to meet you." He replied. "What can I do for you?"

Ah, cutting right down to the chase. Jim liked that, small talk could be tedious. Or plain confusing, considering the people he'd encountered in the village.

"Well, you could give me a job." He offered Jerry one of his lopsided grins before he elaborated a bit on it. "I've been in town for about two weeks now, and what can I say? A man needs something to do and a way to pay the bills around here. I was kinda hoping you might need a poker dealer?"
