Six piles of books and God knows how much coffee later and Mulder had determined one thing: the village was a time rip. It was the only thing that remotely made sense and, since that whole incident off Bermuda, he was pretty apt to believe it. Of course, unlike Bermuda, it seemed to be later than 1999 and, well, Scully was pretty much Scully. Sort of. It was strange to see Scully in her "vacation" mode and while he liked it, he sort of wished they had a case to work on. He missed arguing.
He settled for books, organizing and reorganizing them into alphabetical piles and subsequently by subject. He wouldn't normally be so OCD but, hey, bored. While the time rip thing was cool and had all sorts of paranormal applications, he couldn't really do much about it without his files to cross-reference or his office to use as a base. Of course, back in DC, he didn't really have his office since Diana and Spender had taken it over, but he could have broken in. Maybe.
He'd heard a rumor about wizards and vampires running rampant in the village. Now that would be the sort of concrete evidence he'd need to really tack down some of the paranormal and, if he was able to bring it back to DC, use to reopen the X-Files. It wasn't like he'd find anything on the Cancer Man or the Consortium, but that sort of thing would be enough to get the FBI to reopen and put him and Scully back on the case.
Inspired, he took a marker and a piece of paper, making a makeshift sign.
