During or after ceremony, let me know faramir_hurin June 8 2013, 15:37:09 UTC
My ranger clothing from home is freshly washed, the boots and leather doublet as clean as they can be--just like at Boromir's wedding. Still, they are plain, every day clothes with only the silver on the embossed White Tree of the doublet being 'fancy'. I feel comfortable in it. I have also made and brought a small, plain white flag. I'll be making a wall banner, solid white, as a wedding gift. They need not put it up, but I do mean to treat Kerai as a sister, and so she can now fly the Hurin banner.

Admittedly, I was somewhat surprised to see who was officiating the ceremony. He asked me to call him Erik, so I will until I am told differently.

Penny and I came together*, though she knows that I'll be standing up at the ceremony. All told, I feel it is a fine day.

*Decided in OOM.
Can also tag before ceremony (Penny, Kerai, Chuck) if appropriate. Just let me know when it is.

*[Things before or during ceremony can be referred to]

Once she was properly married, and shared a kiss with Chuck, Kerai turned to Faramir, putting her hand on his arm, and smiling up into his face.

"I wish that someday you may feel as much joy as I do today."

"Perhaps I will, though I feel joy enough today." I take a deep breath, content. "I did not know it would come to this, never dreamed it, but this is the happiness I hoped you would find."

I had no dreams of Kerai's future back when she had to choose between Chuck and myself. I did want her to be happy and so she is: the correct choice was made.

"You look wonderful." I think she glows.

"I feel wonderful. I love Chuck so much that I love everybody." If that makes any sense.

"That's a fine feeling to have." I have something similar when I'm melancholy--I feel sadness such that no one else should have to feel any.

"I don't have a gift for you, but I have a symbol representing it." It's inside my doublet. "Would you like it now? I can wait a few days if this is all too overwhelming."

"You've given me so much already. I will leave it to you to say when it's best to present your gift."

"It's not much to present." I pull out a small piece of fabric--a white silk pennant on a small rod. "This. It is your heraldry as a member of the House of Hurin."

Simple to remember.

"The actual gift is a banner about a yard tall that can be put on your wall. It is not yet finished."

Kerai took it carefully, looked at it, and rolled it up and put it aside with care. It brought up many feelings, so many that she couldn't speak at all for a moment for the pressure of trying to choose which feelings to voice. Finally, one, the most persistent that hadn't yet found utterance, came forth.

"I miss your father." It might seem a non sequitur to others, but Kerai had good hope that Faramir would understand.

"He would have Seen your joy on this day, even as I do, without Looking." It's not surprising, really. "You exude it so much that Long Sight Sees whether I will it or not."

I smile.

"As would father. I wish he could see this, could meet Nora when she's born. Knowing how he felt about you makes my gift all the more valid--you are family."

"You will have to meet her for both of you. And among my people, the mother's older brother, is a very important figure in a child's life. The black uncle it's called. Not black for any evil connotation, but black for importance, like when a word is written in bold letters."

I wish father could know of this. At his time, things at home will be quite dire. Perhaps he will wish to hear--will I think of it five years after I return home?

"You know I would do my best for you and Nora even if it were not tradition." Like being a godparent, as I was once asked to do and later told otherwise. "I would spoil her but a little, while praising her a lot."

Little Nora will not be as Kerai and I, and Chuck also, I suspect. She will never doubt her worth.

"I think it might be a very healing thing, to give to another what we felt the lack of in our own lives. No doubt we'll find different mistakes to make."

"There are always more mistakes to make." Both of us know this, and can smile about it. "There is also always more love. The more to love, the more love comes to fill those places. It's like magic."

I should not be too fanciful. Did not Kerai once worry that I had a bad case of poetry? Or was that a case of bad poetry?

"I..." This will be strange to say. "The officiant for your wedding, Erik. I would not have expected him to do such a thing."

"He and Chuck seem to be friends." She looked closely at Faramir, to judge if he knew who Erik was, as he seemed to.

"I find his presence...restful."

"Friends?" I should not be surprised. I think they come from the same place, though I'm not positive. The other... Didi... was from the same place as Tabitha and Joe.

"I suppose you might. When I first saw him he looked familiar." Though nothing at all like Didi. "We'd met before, in a way, and I am certainly familiar enough with what he is."

Kerai surely knows.

"He said I could speak with him again, though I've not seem much of him before today." This is not the time or place.

"I feel, ridiculous really, speaking to him, anything I could say would be so much shallow twaddle, but he must have chosen this form, to look like us, for some reason. So I do, speak to him. It's made me realize how much humans owe to him. How much our striving is owing to him."
