A Visit to the Library [open]

For the second time, Charlie found herself drawn to the library. She wasn't really surprised anymore. It wasn't as if there was much else to do besides read, walk, and visit clubs. The boredom alone was starting to drive her a little crazy, even without the worry over what the city might choose to do to her. If she had realized what exactly what ( Read more... )

I notice the young lady when she comes in, but she seems to know where she's going. After some time, I note that she is apparently looking for something specific--all over the library. Well, she's not taking anything.

"Excuse me, my lady. Is there something I can help you with?"

"Just... looking." She's not particularly interested in him, though he does get a sideways glance. She isn't exactly sure what she's looking for herself. Just that there's something she wants.

"You can look as long as you like." She doesn't seem to want to say what she's looking for, so I won't ask.

"My name is Faramir, and I'll be at the desk if you have any questions." That is fair, and the best I can do for her right now. I hope she will ask if she has questions, but not everyone will.

"Charlie," she offered, eyes shooting to his face before moving back toward the books. Still nothing that leaped out at her.

I nod. It's an unusual name for a woman but not unheard of. I leave her to her browsing and return to the desk.

If she'd realized yet what a trick the town had played on her, she might have just come after him. Instead she browsed the books for a few more minutes before pulling out something that looks mildly interesting.

The woman remains, looking in the stacks. It shouldn't bother me, but I just have the feeling that something is going on.

She brought it up to him to check it out. She didn't know why she was staying, either. Just that she didn't quite... feel like leaving.

"Did you wish to check that out?" I'm not entirely sure what she has, but she's finally found something.

"Is that a problem?" she asked.

"No. Everyone in the village has a card." I hold out my hand for it. "Books check out for three weeks, but you can renew it if you want it longer."

She rummaged around, searching a little for hers.

"What are you looking for?" I turn to the computer. "I do not need an actual card--you will be in the system already."

It sounds like I actually know what I'm doing.

"I think it's like the hotel--you automatically get a card when you arrive, even if you never end up using it."

"Really?" she frowned, trying to peer at the computer. "So what, just my name?"

I can turn the computer screen around so that she can see it.

"Just your name. The village seems to know us all when we arrive anyway."

"So... Charlie Bradbury?" She offered.
