crawfish boil [[gathering post!]]

May 20, 2012 10:07

Aibileen's not really sure what gave her the idea for boiling enough food for a hundred or so people. Lord knows, she spent enough time cooking for people and serving them too. But the difference, she's found, is that no one expects it, people help, and people enjoy it. She's got good friends here, and really isn't trying to leave any time soon. ( Read more... )

David sat at a table with a napkin spread over his lap. He had a plate with two crawfish on it; he wasn't sure about those things. But he did like potato salad, he found. He was watching people, too; they seemed very cheerful.

Katniss saw David and was quick to approach. She was smiling as she sat down beside him.

"Hello, David," she greeted warmly, pausing to look around, too. "It looks fun, huh?"

"Hello, Katniss." David looked up at her. "There are many people here who are happy."

"You look like one of them," she told him with a smile. "You like the food?"

Faith was doing so much better than she was at the beginning of the year. No desire to beat the shit out of someone in a vampire bar. And it was partly thanks to Aibileen. It also had to do with her son and Dean.

She'd come early to help Aibileen cooking the crawfish, along with Ed in a stroller. This was nice. The music, the food. She might have been smiling more than she had in a long while.

Aibileen walks over with a fresh cup of cold lemonade for Faith. "Looks like we got a hit here. I'm still thinkin' we can have us a good barbecue, end of summer come."

"Thanks." she took it with a smile, "And, yeah, definitely looks like a lot of people are interested in these. To mingle with people and eat."

"Remember back in the day, used to get everyone together back home. Guess I was missin' it. Not home now. Home from a long time ago."

She sits, then looks at Ed. "Maybe next year, little man. You still too small for the crawfish."

Crawfish and cajun music? It was pretty much a given that Remy would make an appearance for that. He certainly didn't need any help knowing how to eat them either.

He had a plate of crawfish, leaning against a nearby tree, as he let himself soak up the music and atmosphere. That smallest reminder of home.

"REMY!" came the squawk before Felecia appeared at his side, arm around his waist even (very good spirits. Very good). "You like these little things?" She said, nodding to the crawfish.

He smiled when she came over, glad to see she seemed to be enjoying herself. "Dat I do. You ever had crawdads before?"

"They look ... well, icky. But ... " Felecia batted her eyelashes. "Will you show me?"

A party! Elle hadn't ever been to something like this. A village gathering with food. She didn't have a clue how to eat crawfish, and frankly she didn't know that she wanted to. Those things looked creepy and gross!

So she just had a lemonade as she wandered around the park, meeting people. She didn't have a clue how to mingle, but dammit she was going to try!

Beatrx saw Elle, and shot her s head nod. Elle was busy mingling, so she didn't go over, just wanted to acknowlege her friend.

Only when Elle saw her she waved and quickly made her way over, giving her a hug, "Hey buddy!"

Beatrix hugged her back.

"Hey! Glad to see you out and about. I wasn't gonna bug ya." Beatrix said, letting her go.

Kenzi wasn't the type to turn down free food, so she got herself a some of the crawfish that she had been shown how to eat and she found a place to sit down so she could enjoy herself. It was a bit crazy having to rip apart the things just to eat them and she got all flaily the first couple of times but she wasn't the type to back down from things either. Plus they were actually pretty darn good.

Popping another small piece into her mouth, she licked her thumb clean while glancing around for anyone she might know.

"How'd I know you'd be here?"

The voice came from behind her as arms slid around her shoulders and a familiar rough sideburn scraped her cheek when Logan pressed his against hers in greeting.

"Smelled the food ages ago, couldn't find you to tell ya...but I guess that's a moot point." he joked, kissing her temple and releasing her to take a seat at her side.

Kenzi jumped a little as the arms wrapped around her but she relaxed as she heard the voice at the same time. Chuckling softly, she leaned against him, accepting the embrace while tipping her head back against his shoulder.

"Because it's free food, duh? I could sense it all the way on the other side of the village." She was half kidding as she glanced over at him. "Want some?"

"Yeah, I'll have a little. Then I'll stick around to carry you home when you eat yourself sick." he quipped, pressing his shoulder against hers.. He didn't need to be shown as he stole one of hers and ate it as if he'd been sucking down crawfish all his life...even when he hadn't.

Chalking it up to muscle memory of some kind, Logan chewed on the last of his pilfered crawfish and gestured to the rest of her dish.

"You know the head's the best part." he informed her after swallowing. "Suck it out through the shell, that's the sweetest meat."
