Mattie was still in the village--this irritated her less and less every day, but she was still not happy about school. She was avoiding it like well, a kid who didn't want to go to school

There's a girl in the library, no unusual occurrence. I'm just not accustomed to young girls seeking out books on hunting and fishing. Those happen to be topics I know something about, and I'm curious as to why she's studying these things.

"Hello. My name is Faramir and I'm the head librarian here. Is there anything I can help you with?"

Mattie looked up. "Hello. I seem to have found what I was looking for. Thank you, though."

She didn't want to seem rude and ignore him. She then paused a moment before speaking again.

"My name is Mattie Ross."

"Good to meet you, Mattie." She does not seem to wish for any help.

"If you need to check any books out, just bring them to the desk. Or any if you need any help."

Hunting and fishing?

"Is this for school?" I shouldn't ask but I'm curious.

She bristled a little at the mention of school.

"No, I do not go to school," Mattie replied tensely.
