Mattie was still in the village--this irritated her less and less every day, but she was still not happy about school. She was avoiding it like well, a kid who didn't want to go to school.
Instead, Mattie figured if the village wanted her to learn something, she could probably find out about it at the library. Yes, it wasn't her favorite place either, but it was better than having to deal with any sort of authority figure. And she already knew how to read, so she figured she could check out any book she liked and not need some annoying teacher to tell her what to do.
She found some books about hunting and fishing and decided to flip through them. It wasn't as good as actually going out and doing the real thing, but Mattie supposed it was good to rest sometimes and just teach oneself things.
