Kyla hadn't admitted to anyone that she had been the one to take the shot at Six, though she suspected that if they narrowed down the caliber of weapon it would be easy to pinpoint it to a small pool of people in the village to which she would be one of them. Kyla also hadn't left the clinic since bringing now Six. Most of the time was spent watching over Leoben, but she would occasionally slip into Laura's room when she was asleep to make sure Laura was okay too.
When she stepped quickly into the room again, she thought Laura would be asleep again, but Kyla discovered that wasn't the case. After an awkward pause, she sends Laura a small smile. Kyla looked a lot more like she did normally in her own world - Lack of sleep had caused dark circles to form under her eyes. She had showered, but only to keep from smelling and her hair had been neglected in order to save time, so it was flat and tied back into a pony tail like she used to wear it all the time back home. Laura closes her eyes and wets her lips. "That was a bad time for us all. But Kara...we didn't see her again. He took her, and we didn't know what was happening. And yet somehow, here, I'd managed to forgive all of that."
She looks at Kyla. "I know that he didn't do this. But I'm reminded of the things he did do, and of the things that did happen."
"I would expect you not to." Since the event, she couldn't help but hear the voices in the back of her head that sounded a lot like J.L.'s voice. She exhaled quietly. "... If he hadn't saved my life. If it hadn't gone down the way it had in the animal clinic..." She shook her head. She just might have killed him too, though it would have been hard. Very hard.
She nodded, looking at Laura, thinking about what she should do next. Things were complicated, but on the other hand, her heart was saying things were simple.
"Would you think I'm stupid if I said I don't think I could stop seeing him?" Laura's opinion meant the most to her.
Laura's quiet for a little while, knowing that she must pick her words carefully.
"No. I wouldn't think you're stupid. I...would think that you know the difference between one of them and the one you have feelings for. I would expect you not to let it cloud your judgement in the future. But I wouldn't think you're stupid."
At least Laura didn't think poorly of her. It was a relief that probably showed on her face. She nodded again. "I won't." It was a promise she was making both to Laura and herself.
She paused. "... I'm just glad I was able to help." What Kyla meant was she was glad Laura survived.
"Do you know, Kyla, that I care about you very much. I think of you as family. My family. All that I need is for you to be alright," Laura says quietly before lying back and trying to relax.
For Kyla's part, she had put Laura in the same position as her parents. She would do whatever it took to keep her safe because, like Laura, Kyla felt the same. Laura was family. "The same goes for me." She reached out to gently squeeze Laura's hand. Kyla knew Laura needed her rest.
"I'll let you rest, but I'll come check on you later."
Kyla gave Laura's hand around squeeze and then stood with a small nod. Then, with one last look at her, Kyla left the room for a little while, not that she was going to be leaving the clinic any time soon.

"I suppose we both have to figure out and understand where to go from here."

Kyla nodded, giving Laura a small smile. "If you ever need anything, you can always ask."
