Katniss hated clinics yet she hovered by the door, peeking in, her brows drawn with worry seeing Laura there. She cleared her throat, waiting for Laura.to look her way.
She smiled slightly, still with her brows drawn, stepping Ianthe room. "Peeta told me you were here." She held a bouquet of wildflowers gathered from the woods. "Are you okay?"
Peeta had both flowers and a box of elaborately decorated cupcakes. It was the least he could do. Katniss was taking care of Rory so he came here. Laura was a friend, kind and good and this was the least he could do.
"Looking a little worse for wear, I think," she says, pushing the button so that she can sit up in the bed a little more. "How bad is it out there?" She knows that it can't be good, and she has no idea if the bakery has been hit - again.
To say that the events of the weekend had rattled Ned would have been an understatement. First, there was the fact that being told that things like zombie invasions were common place and actually seeing it firsthand were entirely different things. And then there was the matter of death and all that went with it in his life.
Like the fact that his employer, who had called him family had been among those gravely hurt. Ned had struggled for days with what to do or say, because familiy was...well, a complicated thing he didn't care to think about. But she had given him a job, and let Digby be with her daughter, which made her mean something. Ned may not have been comfortable with that, because people who meant something could be lost and there would be messes that could never be entirely cleaned away--but it still meant he felt obligated to make some kind of gesture.
The gesture, in this case, was putting on a tie and bringing a strawberry pie to her room, which he peeked into silently and with a slightly anxious expression.
Laura's face looks the worst, but she does manage a smile when she sees Ned. He's still so new, she doesn't expect to see him and she sits up a little with a hopefully hidden wince.
"Hi, I--" he gestures, a bit helplessly, with the hand holding the pie, as he steps in. "I wasn't sure what else to do. Home isn't like this at all, but I was pretty sure bringing food when bad things happen to---" he hesitated on any number of words, choosing the one with the fewest attachments "--people you know, was a fairly universal thing."
Leoben shouldn't have been up out of bed, yet. But he'd been getting restless in his room. So he'd commandeered a wheelchair and was careful not to tear his stitches. Wheeling around the clinic, he was rolling past her room when he stopped, seeing her out of the corner of his eye. Turning himself around he entered, but stayed near the entrance. She might not want his company, all things considered.
When she hears his voice, Laura keeps her eyes closed for a long moment before dragging them open, looking over at him. She has no idea how to feel or what to do, but that fear, the old fear from New Caprica, every time his model walked by her room, settles in her chest. But she knows it's different here. Knows that he's hurt because he was helping humanity, not Six.
Kyla hadn't admitted to anyone that she had been the one to take the shot at Six, though she suspected that if they narrowed down the caliber of weapon it would be easy to pinpoint it to a small pool of people in the village to which she would be one of them. Kyla also hadn't left the clinic since bringing now Six. Most of the time was spent watching over Leoben, but she would occasionally slip into Laura's room when she was asleep to make sure Laura was okay too.
When she stepped quickly into the room again, she thought Laura would be asleep again, but Kyla discovered that wasn't the case. After an awkward pause, she sends Laura a small smile. Kyla looked a lot more like she did normally in her own world - Lack of sleep had caused dark circles to form under her eyes. She had showered, but only to keep from smelling and her hair had been neglected in order to save time, so it was flat and tied back into a pony tail like she used to wear it all the time back home. Soldier Kyla, Corporal Connor, much older looking than her nineteen
Laura didn't realize exactly how guilty she felt about Kyla, about pushing so hard for this belief that the cylons were alright, until Kyla was standing right in front of her.
"Are you alright?" she asks first, needing to know.
She pressed her lips together before answering and then gave a small nod to Laura. Seeing she was awake, she stepped further into the room.
"I've been through worse." That much was true. "What about you? How are you feeling?"
Through the scope Laura had looked pretty beaten up, but Kyla remembered thinking distinctly that she looked even worse in person. Laura had been through a lot and none of it pretty.

"I should be fine. I go home tomorrow, even. I think it might look worse than it actually is."

"You're wonderful. Thank you, Ned. And, you're right, I don't even come from the same planet, but this is pretty standard."

"Would you rather I left you be...?" he asked.

"I'm...I'm a little shaken right now, I apologize."

"Been through worse, too," she says before closing her eyes. "Kyla, I'm...I'm sorry."
