After the
conversation with my father I am at such a loss that I know not what to do. I went to my rooms after and looked at the cabinet beside my bed. That folder was where it should be, where I keep it. I took it and put it under everything else. Olore, being the curious fellow he is, decided that since the cabinet was open he should investigate

"How are you faring, Spencer?" He seems quite comfortable.

Despite living in Virginia for so long, the cold still affected him, probably because he was so skinny. He wrapped his coat further around himself.
"You?"
Reply
Well, the second time he wasn't turned.
"Did that affect you?" I ask. "It did me, though I think it worked out for the best. Father was... He stayed with me."
*Yes, it's that cloak. The pin isn't on it.

"No, I didn't change..."
He had wondered why that was. Perhaps the village didn't want him to have to relive his childhood again.
"Your father took care of you?"
Spencer had read the books. He knew Denethor's feelings about Faramir. It was something that had endeared him towards Faramir's character as a child. Spencer also had a father that he felt he had displeased. That was why he left, after all.

I couldn't tell then and now...
"Something happened. I didn't know at the time but he changed. He wished to speak with me and he even admitted that he had made a mistake about something." I look at Spencer. "I'm so astonished by it all."

"It seems curious. In the.. histories where your story is written, your father seemed..."
He tried to come up with a diplomatic way to say this.
"Preoccupied with Boromir."

"It has been so ever since our mother died. I know father was different before, but after the only important thing was Gondor. As the heir, that meant Boromir." I mostly did not matter. "I never was jealous of Boromir for that, I just wished that father would see me too."
It seemed so small, but he did not notice.
"Now he has. I will never believe that this village is hell, or any version of it. I have been given too much for that."
I smile, mildly embarrassed.
"It seems like a strange thing for a man my age, I suppose."
Reply
"I've had many good things happen to me in this village. And a boy is never too old to want his father's attention and love."

Then I smile again, a little bit.
"Though I understand what you mean. If only Boromir would know about it. He always wished that father and I could get along better. Now we have the chance."

"I'm glad for you."

"I lost a friend here. I was teaching her to read English and she was teaching me French in return. There's always a bit of a shock when someone leaves." It's not so bad, just a little... emptiness for a while. "And Meg was very amused that I was learning her language, too."

Two, in fact, though one had since returned. That was the day he had met Sarah.
"You had mentioned something to me about learning Sindarin..."
[It was Sindarin, right?]

"I would be very honored to learn how to read Sindarin. You said you wanted help translating the old texts, yes?"

To make it real, truly real. We are all equally real. That sounds both simple and foolish.
