Football Tryouts (Backdated to Saturday morning - Gathering Style - OTA)

Sep 17, 2011 23:05

James had arrived at the park early to get everything set up for the tryouts. Not that there was a lot of setting to do, but he'd set up a field goal, marked some places on the grass, put out some cones for running exercises, simple things like that ( Read more... )

I am very uncertain about this football game. But I said I would be at the tryouts and learn about it, so of course I am here. I feel very silly wearing the strange athletic shoes that I bought so long ago when I was using the gym--before I had my sword tree--and the exercise clothing makes me feel even more uncomfortable. I do not belong in this clothing but it's what people wear.

If this does not suit me, I do not have to participate. Trying it out will not hurt anything.

He is likely to look nervous/uncomfortable about the athletic wear. He did use it, but that was a couple of years back./small>

James is thrilled that people are actually showing up, and that his dream of a village football league just might not be as far-fetched as he'd feared.

He approaches someone he knows to be Faramir - although they have never met, and smiles a friendly smile.

"Hey, there. We ain't met, but I'm James Ford. Thanks for coming."

"Hello. I'm Faramir. I know nothing of this game except that I promised I would come to the tryouts." And I do as I say I will. "I know very little about any Earth sports, actually. Though football is a popular game in several countries."

I shrug.

"No harm can come of trying." Though I do wonder about the young man in the wheelchair.

He does not know that football and American football are not the same game.

"Soccer is a popular game in several countries. Europeans call it football, but it ain't. Football's an entirely different and better sport."

He smiled though.

"But I'm thrilled you're here anyway. As I said, I'll be glad to teach everyone anything they need to know, we ain't the NFL here. Just for fun and a little friendly rivalry, ya know?"

So football and football are not the same game. Football is, apparently, better than 'football'. Soccer.

"I have no idea what the NFL is, and I've done well enough with friendly rivalry so far at village games. So I'll stay around to learn the rules and see if this might be interesting for me." Again, I wonder about the young man in the wheelchair and nod in his direction.

"Will he be able to play?" I am just curious. I saw baseball, and he might be able to hit the ball but he'd need someone to run for him. I suppose it's possible.

James shrugs.

"If he wants to bad enough. I'm not going to be the one to tell him he can't."

So there has to be a way for it to work.

"For some reason that makes me more interested in the game." Some sort of ball and, I'm guessing, kicking. He could have played Iolaus' bucketball.

"I can't really make any decisions until I know more about the game, and I imagine I'm not the only one. So you'll be explaining later and then I can see if it might work."
