Enjoyed watching Twister last night. As much as there are quite a few things in it that are a bit... impossible, I like the story, and get caught up in the excitment pretty easily. What a cool job that would be! I loved all the characters too ( Read more... )

No point posting anonymously, really.

What happens if *you* are the one to cut them out of your life, do you have no moral obligation to give stuff back?

I had a rough (if brief) experience on that one, where I had no wish to be in touch but was unsure whether something was a gift or a loan, so got in touch simply and solely to ask whether she wanted it back; if she had I'd've mailed it or passed it on through someone we both knew. (Which latter was in fact how I got a couple of things I'd leant back.) As it was she didn't so it went to charity, and even that minimal communication seemed to result in (extra) bad feeling ...

On the other hand, I ended a friendship back in junior school (Grade 6) and it still annoys me that the girl never gave me my beloved toy horse back, though some five years later I did get back a book she'd denied I had leant her.

Good times, good times.

Gifts are gifts; loaners are loaners. The two should not be confused, and a gift should not turn into a loaner after a breakup. Just because things are bad between you now does not mean that they were bad when the gift was given, and that's the spirit in which the gift should remain ( ... )
