I have two obscurities that have been on my mind lately:

- Devil On My Back, a book by Monica Hughes, first published in 1984. It's about a futuristic world where all knowledge is contained in these infopaks. And at the end of every school year, students are upgraded to a new infopak. But if their body rejects it, they are then demoted to ( Read more... )

tv series, book, tv show, sci fi

Um, Farscape isn't obscure. It's huge. So huge, in fact, that it was the fandom of thousands and thousands and thousands that was able to convince Sci-Fi to make the ending Mini-series. It's the only television series that the fans alone were ever able to get put back on TV. There's dozens of insanely active archives, communities, forums, fanlistings,.....

Fair enough. But most of the people I know have never heard of it. That could just say something about my friends tho...

Yeah, this is a community for fandoms without easy access to other fans, or fandoms that don't have much in the way of communities, archives, forums, etc.

From the info page: nothing with really big mainstream fandoms already where it is easy to find other fans. And for Farscape, a ten second google search brings up an entire page of portals to find other fans, plus an interest search on LJ brings up a ton of active communities for fic, discussion, graphics, etc. So if you're looking for other Farscape fans, the Farscape comms would be your best bet! farscape being the largest.

I love Farscape. I don't consider it to be obscure, but I'm surprised at how many people have never heard of it either.

I love almost everything that Monica Hughes has ever written! You start reading them going um, ok, but by the time you're thirty pages in you just know that you're not going to put them down until you get to the very end.

Farscape was fairly obscure in its home country. I blame Australia's Nine Network...
