A friend of mine lived in Berlin for a while and saw The Edukators when it came out. She kept trying to get me to watch it, cos she knew I'd like it, but I only ended up seeing it when I had to do a presentation on it as part of a European Cinema module at Uni, heh. Now I hear rumours that it's going to be remade with an American cast (and not set in Germany anymore, I would assume!). I wonder how that will turn out...
Bah...it would ruin it, just like all the other films America 'remade.' (im not bitching at you in the following, just in general) Like 'the ring' and 'the grudge'(which i would like to point out were both scarier in the original japanese) and 'insomnia' ect ect (oh...and 'the office'...even though it was already in english...wtf?). I wish some people would just learn to live with subtitles.
Last year my fiancé and I caught Santa Claus Conquers the Martians on TV and couldn't believe it. Hysterical. I love the guy in the polar bear suit. :D
Along the same vein: one day, years ago, when I was sick and channel-surfing I ran across Robinson Crusoe on Mars, a movie from the 60's where this astronaut is stranded on Mars with a monkey, has to figure out what to eat, runs into this slave who gives him some kind of air pills that allow him to breathe when his oxygen tank is depleted, and so on. More great B Movie cheese.
I've watched the Edukators...Because I took German through college & so when my boy goes to the video store he'll grab anything he sees in German (including the wonderfully awful Night of the Living Dorks, which I'm fairly certain is only funny because it's not in English). Also...Santa Clause Conquers the Martians has been highlighted as a candidate for 'Bad Movie Night', held one rediculous Friday night per month.
Haha, sounds like an awesome night. Also if you want to laugh at an asian movie with no feasable plot and pure eye candy, definitely check out 'Casshern'. Its another: Freak accident --> mutants --> mutants think they are misunderstood --> decide to kill off all the humans with their super mutant strengh -->hero emerges to fight on human side --> eyecandy fights and bad dialouge insue.
Ps: most of the film was made on a greenscreen with flawless graphics, god knows what the budget was (far too much), but still the plot is laughable. A must see for hours of brainless action and laughs.
Glad to hear im spreading the foreign film love. :) If you like The educators and feel like more German, check out 'The experiment'. One of the best psycological thrillers in any language.
