The Donald Strachey Mysteries

I made a post about these movies on my LJ and longlongwaytogo suggested that I come over here and mention them. So here I am. ;)

(It's not as obscure as many other series mentioned here, I'm sure, but it's something that deserves a lot more fans.)

The relationship between Don and Timmy is, I'm told, slightly different in the books--the movies portray them to be in a very loving, devoted, long-term relationship.As a fan of this series since being given one of the books in 1983, I can tell you that a major difference is that the climate in the gay community was different when the first books were written. We had not yet entered the age of AIDS when Stevensen wrote Death Trick, the first Donald Strachey novel, in 1979. In the community, monogamy was not at all common or even a preferred lifestyle among most gay men. Since the advent of AIDS that has changed somewhat and the movies reflect the new attitude in that regard. As for the Donald/Timmy interactions and dialog, the books have even more of that wonderful witty repartee that is, to me, the hallmark of the D/T relationship ( ... )
