Hey there! I was wondering if anyone is a fan of Jacques Tati? I've only seen three of his films so far- Trafic, Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot (Mr. Hulot's Holiday), and Mon Oncle. They are quite leisurely paced and Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot, while it had good parts, was too slow even for my patient nature (I fell asleep in the end) but ( Read more... )

I've never seen those films, but they look/sound interesting. :) (I'm minoring in French and love the culture.) I'll have to add that to my list of things to check out at some point.

If you're in the UK and you want to find these, you -might- have some luck at Past Times. Used to work there, and I definitely saw Les Vacances floating round a couple of times. =)

Never picked it up, though.

Well, I'm from the US(I got them off Netflix) but that's definitely a useful tip for members from the UK!

I've read some comments that Mr. Bean's Holiday was kind of a ripoff of M. Hulot's Holiday. I've not seen Mr. Bean's, so I can't say.

Can anyone else offer an opinion on this?

Jour De Fete is my favourite Tati film.

Ripoff? Lord no. But it nodded to the great man on several occasions - one being a very clear JDF reference ;)

Playtime seems to resonate most for me nowadays - probably something to do with getting older/cultureshock ;) - I used to prefer MO. But they all make me laugh.

Thanks for the heads-up. I should get it out. My kids love Mr. Bean anyway.

Did you see Rowan Atkinson in Rat Race, the remake of It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World? One of the few remakes that's actually better than the original!
