Title: Endgame

Summary: “Who are you?” Sasuke’s voice is cool and steady. Naruto grins, and in his mind Sasuke is cataloguing lightning fast all the weapons within reach and how quickly he could reach them, because something is screaming not right not right not right -  “I am hatred,” Naruto says with the same disconcerting flash of bone-white teeth ( Read more... )

Oh, I almost FORGOT.

Mommie and Daddie try to tell Naruto that they love him... fifteen years too late.

Seriously. WTF?!

i liked. at last a sasuke who is not a wimp, he's really gone off the deep end lately and i'm glad someone else noticed and made him apologetically... evil? revengeful?

i agree with you about the hatred thing. i don't think it's healthy to try and crush it completely.
actually it reminds me of a quote from alexandria you might like:

"All our lives we have been taught to select between opposites, yet the task is impossible because everything incorporates its reverse. Whatever option we choose, the other remains- it cannot be wiped away by rejection. That's why the underworld is inhabited by all that is disowned and disavowed, and it is as strong and resilient as the over-world. Our enemy wants to hide this basic truth from us, so he insists that all things are separate. But imagine for a moment what it would be like if we were to re-join the worlds above and below. Would Frolatti and his kind [they're dark angels] still be able to hunt us down, if our shadows were there to defend our backs?"

I doooo like it! I love the concept of our shadows being stronger than our 'good' selves (that's what that quote gets at...?) - which actually makes sense what with 'That which does not kill me makes me stronger'.

Thanks :D I'm happpy you liked it - yeah, my illusions about Sasuke are all kind of... slipping away. >.>;; I can only hope that his now inevitable redemption at the hands of Naruto is carried out with at least an attempt at realism. TT^TT But with the new 'DO NOT HATE' Jedi-thing... =|

Yeah, cause ignoring your feelings/hate worked out so well for the Jedi XDDD

I know I rambled to you about this over PM and sorry if I'm repeating myself but I'm so glad someone sat down and wrote something like this. Emotions like hatred and anger -- anger specific enough to bring about violence - are not things that can be brushed aside as easily as Kishimoto had Naruto do in canon. I mean we all knew that Naruto had to have issues, he had an anger that was deep enough to let the Kyuubi take control every now and then at his own loss of control, which to me always meant that this wasn't just a little anger or a little hate, it was a whole lot of it. Again, never addressed. Kishimoto had Naruto acknowledge his anger in canon, he had him admit that yes, this anger and hatred is a part of him ( ... )

Yesyes that's exactly what I was going for, I'm so glad it came... out. XD;; You WILL NOT RECONCILE YOUR DARK SIDE BY HUGGING IT, NARUTO. OTL;; -headdeskheaddesk- YOUR ANGER WILL NOT JUST MAGICALLY... DISAPPEAR.

Also crazily delighted that you got that it was Sasuke's blood! I didn't want it to be too overwrought hahaha. :| x3

Thanks so much! :D

THAT WAS GOOOOOOD
and not just for the themes either-- I mean I agree that it's super disatisfying for the series to imply that you need to make hatred absolutely disappear... it feels less like overcoming it than it should, and it's hard to believe in the first place.
BUT ASIDE FROM THAT
just the fic itself was really invigorating. I thought your characterization of Sasuke and DarkNaruto were soo soooo awesome and canon. I loved how DarkNaruto was talking in terms of two people (it was delightfully creepier than in the manga because of the circumstances) and how Sasuke was so freaking fierce. I kind of feared that people would start writing DarkNaruto/Sasuke as a way to kind of one-up Sasuke or punish him for the pain he's caused to Naruto, which really turns me off since he never asked for Naruto to do the things he does for him. This felt nothing like that so phew, I could read calmly lol. I really loved how they interacted and bounced their hatred off each other and shared it--- that last part where Sasuke touches him and tells ( ... )

:D Thanks so much! Haha yeah it was super dissatisfaction that led to this fic. >.>;

ARGHKLDSA;GF I'M SO GLAD YOU LIKED THE CHARACTERIZATION. Just that, well, Dark!Naruto hasn't really been shown to have MUCH of a one and I was afraid that I would be waaay off the mark. It is very peculiar writing Naruto so... darkly. .__.

This piece is lovely.

I like the descriptions, especially this line: "In the end they are two lost boys, two boys broken by hatred, one who gave himself to it and the other who tried to sear it from his flesh as though cauterizing some quiet shhhhh of history."

Although for this sentence: it must be a trick of the light because his eyes are flickering between black and a sharp, bright blue, like bits of summer sky. - I think summer sky consumed by a storm? Dunno ( ... )

Everything you have said is very, very true. WHOAWHOAWHOA THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR REVIEWING, I am fairly blind to flaws such as these. OTL;; I just get ideas and then assume everyone else occupies my headspace ( ... )

You've mentioned Konoha - dark!Naruto says that he'll go after the village once he's killed Sasuke. I think there's a sort of continuity error there though, because Kyuubi tells light!Naruto that Madara is dead (or at least, that's what I think he means in the second last paragraph), and Madara wasn't mentioned on that list at all, although Kyuubi might mean Tenzou/Yamato?

Regarding the use of jutsu: go check out their fight at the Valley of the End - they use Chidori and Rasengan. There's fist-to-fist combat (taijutsu) rather than kunai throwing. In fact, it's mostly taijutsu, although I feel it would be more realistic if Naruto used Rasengan instead of a kunai to kill Sasuke? Also, because it would be kind of a parallel to Valley of the End.

I guess it could be taken as Sasuke knowing that Naruto understands hate - seeing dark!Naruto being consumed by hate, but you do need to bring that out. :)

Oh dear, more terrible ambiguity. D: I actually meant for the reader to think that Sasuke is the dead one, with Madara being the one who will let it back out into the world... D: AND TOTALLY FORGOT ABOUT YAMATO TOO. ARGH PLOTHOLES EVERYWHERE.

Thank you!
