I love documetnaries. i prefer nature, history, archeology or palentogy but will watch just about anything I see more then two seconds of. We watched a wonderful nature doc on sailfin last night, narrated by my beloved David Attenborough. Fabulous and beautiful!!!! Marg and I both love to watch them and when I see ads for something we always make ( Read more... )

I agree with you about the dearth of good nature shows anymore. Animal Planet is so dull now--The Haunted, Hoarders, I'm Lucky to Be Alive, other garbage. I want good nature programming--and indulgent shows about doggies and kitties (I'm not too proud to mention that).

Coast is an amazing series of programmes. I do get the impression that they have covered just about everything there is to cover now. As you say, this is their third time around.

Another thing to keep on the look out for is "Frozen Planet." It might not make it to Canada for a while yet, as it is only just being shown here. But certainly worth a look if you can get it.

I'm looking forward to Frozen Planet. I've seen ads for it but not sure when it's going to run.

You'd think in this day and age, they'd not leave much of a gap. Enjoy the polar bears when you see them. :)

You reminded me that I've forgotten to set my DVR for Ancient Worlds. (Thanks to being within broadcast range of Windsor, I get CBC and TVO in my cable lineup.) I've enjoyed Coasts, and I'm also glad whenever Time Team is rerun.

I'm so disappointed [understatement] by the cheap shows the so-called educational channels show. Ice road trucking and pawn shops are merely boring. Much worse is the endless spew of Nostradamus, and mythical monsters, and UFOs. Those shows undermine critical thinking. Even when they include debunkers, they always end up with, "But you don't have to pay attention to the people who say these things don't exist. Believe because you want to!"

The new episodes of Time Team have been funa as always. I thoroughly enjoy that series too!

I really hate the war on nature shows that A&E seem fascinagted with. Swamp People, Hog Hunters, Gold Mine, Loggers. It's all very disturbing.

One bright spot is that the shows on the otherwise pro-ignorance channels are completely accepting evolution and the real age of the Earth and universe. They pander to conspiracy theorists but not to creationists.

Overall, though, they're really scraping the bottom of the barrel to run "reality" shows so they don't have to actually spend any money producing shows. I mean, seriously, competitive whisker growing?

Totally agree with you about the Discovery Networks (History, Science and Discovery Channels). They've become reality TV-central. "Through the Wormhole" and "Wonders of the Solar System/Universe" were good. Catch those in reruns if you can.
