The streets sang praises, shouted and toasted joyfully, "To the Boy Who Lived!" But how could they be joyful? Despite all his efforts, Lily was dead. The efforts were practically pointless, he knew, but he'd tried. He always tried.
Severus went to Dumbledore first. He didn't know where else to go. So much was said. Severus had removed the memory and kept it in the pocket of his robes. He didn't want to remember the words right now. All he knew was that he hated the mark on his arm. He despised it with that remained of his heart.
His chest hurt. It had hurt since Halloween. Since the moment he found out. It felt like someone had crucio'd his heart repeatedly, but somehow, that didn't compare. He wanted physical pain. He'd prefer it. Anything to get his mind off of it.
He missed her more than anything. She had loved James. He wasn't a fool, he knew that. But...that was alright. Anything was alright, as long as she was alive. But she wasn't. She never would be. Never again would he see those beutiful eyes ( ... )

But...he understood how it felt. Severus didn't have anymore tears left. Instead he had that constant, nagging pain deep in his core.
He closed his eyes tightly for a moment. He understood the pain but not why. It simply baffled him.
He sucked it up and stepped forward until he was just by her, reached into a pocket of his robes and squatted down, silently offering her a small handkerchief. It was black at white with his initials in the corner. His mother had made it for him years ago.
He didn't meet her eyes. He didn't even look at her properly. It was a small offering and he planned to give it to her and go, even if it did mean splinching again.

When she saw a figure in her peripheral vision, she couldn't ignore it anymore.
Glancing, she saw the last person she expected; Severus Snape. Upon further though, he was probably there to goad Sirius. Those two were ridiculous with their hatred of one another. She waved off his gesture. She appreciated it, really. She didn't want to be cruel. She had no fight left in her right now, but she didn't want to get cleaned up, she wanted to feel miserable for the moment. Tomorrow, she would have to find her strength, she needed this time to lose herself.
After a moment of trying with no success, she managed to get words out.
"I'm fine, thank you."
Her voice was barely audible. She was still fighting off sobs and speech was a near impossible feat at the moment.
