So I think one thing I can say was alternative about the way my parents raised me was their lack of expectations. It's funny because that's what most people would think was so prevelant in my life... but really, that's what just wasn't there... I mean there were expectations, but it was like that I would say please and thank you, that I wouldn't

I think your parents were exactly right. They expect you to be a good person, and not to do or be X, Y, Z.

Maybe that's our struggle with you-know-who? Because I didn't really listen to my father, so in some ways it's strange to now feel that someone disapproves of certain decisions in my life.
