We wtched PotC2 tonight as well :-) Simialar thoughts to you, really - enjoyable fluff, but not as good as the first one, and some major inconsistencies. For example, I was under the impression that all of the original Black Pearly crew who had been cursed, died on acheiving mortality when the curse was broken at the end. And yet, we got pinky and perky being not outstandingly funny all the way through.
On the other hand, gotta love Johnny Depp being as camp as a row of pink tents :-p
IIRC, some of the evil crew from the first did survive as they surrendered to the navy and were to be hanged. I remember MacKenzie Crook's character chasing after his eyeball, not realising he was alive, only to be stopped in his chasing by a naval officer.
Right, as i just said to Tom, I think that some of the crew died (the ones who had been "killed" whilst undead), so that must have been what confused me.
Nah; all the crew surrendered (since they couldn't die, as such, before the curse was lifed) and then they talk during the film (PotC2) about how they escaped. So yeah; included for the fans but worked in feasible well.
Barbossa's return, otoh, is a baffler since he DID die.
The monkey grabbed a coin in the post-credits sequence, first film, so hence is "undead" now.
I rilly rilly liked it as a summer movie, but it paled in comparison to the first. There were some wonderful parts, but I felt like the whole thing was just too much. Like, almost all of the fights and Kraken attacks could have been cut a lot.
When I saw the Kraken on the trailer, thought it so cool, but its effect was diminished using it more than once, and making one Kraken scene just too long. Destroy the ship already.
But, yeah, there were some wonderful parts. I'm hopeful that the third will be more focused.
