I saw an episode of The West Wing S2 on Saturday called 'Bad Moon Rising'. The parallels and contrast were so sharp between that and the episode of West Wing S7 I saw Friday night, 'Here Today', that it was almost painful. By the way, this paragraph doesn't exist for those out there happily living in a world where the last few seasons of West Wing ( Read more... )

While The West Wing S7 is nowhere near as good as S2, on any level, Here Today was one of the few episodes that reminded me of Sorkin - partly because it so clearly apes elements of S2/S3.

Whereas for me the aping of elements only reminded me more clearly than usual of my preference for earlier TWW. :)

I must confess I didn't watch it in close proximity to Actual Sorkin, which might have diluted its effectiveness somewhat. Also the bizarre directorial decisions in Here Today are really distracting.

time goes too fast

But soon you will be back!

Also, Fires is being re-released this month on a major label.

That seemed so far away! And now it isn't. Time is too fast.

And I saw that. Shall have a look out. Although, Everyone Goes To War is being chosen as the 'first' release, despite being hardly the strongest track. I also heard that the re-released album may get commercialised up.

I believe EGTW was the lead song for the indie release, too, but I could be imagining it. I've seen some ambiguous mutterings about extra commercialisation, too, but I haven't read anywhere that there's a new producer attached to the project, so the extra commerciality may purely be down to the bigger publicity machine. The Idaho release Fires, after all, didn't sell very many copies at all. I also have to say that to make Fires any more radio friendly would be pretty difficult without completely rewriting the songs.

Yep, EGTW was first for the indie release, but I still don't think it's a good first choice (I can only hope I get proven wrong). I imagine you're right about the publicity machine, well, I can hope anyway (including a better CD cover). Perhaps this'll be her year like last's was Tunstall's.

Very nearly watched Hostage last night, but watched Elektra instead. Oops.

Feels like not that long ago I was watching in horror at Camilla's hat on a number of unfortunately big widescreen TVs at a Selfridges store.

Blimey, I'd forgotten that! I mean, I'd forgotten that was the day. Damn, time's speeded up recently :-(

Oh, I imagine it'll be repeated again, though, like I said, intense but predictable. And a little contrived. For a closely filmed part-nighttime thriller, however, it did have some good cinematography.

I'll look out for it. I have to say, I wasn't really up to watching "intense" last night, so maybe it was a good thing. Although I'm not sure that watching Elektra was a good thing either :-p

I don't know. Adds some perspective, like knowing that at least you didn't have any responsibility for that film. ;p

The job question. secritcrush April 9 2006, 20:11:09 UTC
EDIT: Would applying to similar jobs at the same university in similar areas that may or may not be in the same school be considered cheeky or keen? Hmmmm, one to think on. Me, desperate? Never.

I think it would be fine - I've applied for University jobs before and at least over hear I've been told that each hiring individual often doesn't look beyond the resumes they receive for that specific announcement. (Usually they can, but they just don't.)

So if it is a different supervisor, it's basically like you are applying for the first time.

also:oh my that hat.

Thanks.

And I can't belive that's a hat, it must have been a security precaution.

It does look rather a lot like a porcupine.
