well, we had them in 1980 in the house... the only problem with them, is dang make sure your water is good , ie; lotsa stuff in it can carrode(sp), block up the pipes..
So is this on-demand unit a whole-house tankless? Or a spot heater that mounts on/under the kitchen sink? We're looking at a whole house tankless unit (one with variable output so it can eventually be used as backup for a primary solar water heater system).
We just replaced our 15 year old a/c with a multistage variable speed unit that, while rated 17SEER reportedly will do much better than expected because it doesn't run full-tilt all the time. Neatest thing is with the variable speed comes soft-start motors on the compressor that don't have near the start-current spike, so the new unit MIGHT be low enough draw to put downstream of the transfer switch, which could mean if we get hurricaned and lose utility power we might could still have a/c! :-)
'd you ever put up before-and-afters of the kitchen?
It's a whole house tankless unit, sized for 1-BR/1-BA more than the house actually has, in order to be able to support a hot tub and/or finishing out the basement someday.
So how are you liking the A/C? Our is likely getting replaced this year, so I'm listening ....
No pics yet on the kitchen. It's still not done. Still need to do the floor, then go back with moulding, then install lights. Someday. HA. Actually, that's the plan for my first few weeks of unemployment after this contract ends, assuming I don't end up converting to permanent.

If you're considering one, definitely read this first post:

The other post about it is here ... tax credit expires 12/31/2010 IIRC.
