Forever Knight Ficathon

Are you a fan of early 90's cop shows? Do scantily clad victims of the week, shrewd deduction based on semi-obvious clues, morbidly sardonic coroners, youthful rookies and souvlaki-eating detectives sound appealing? (Especially the morbidly sardonic coroners ( Read more... )

:-) Yep, that's why she wrote "proto" -- while all by itself it literally means "first," as a prefix to another word it means "before the beginning of." :-) (Words! I love them so much!)

No worries! replied before I got a chance to explain and apologize. Honestly, I'm regularly made fun of for using words that native English speakers don't know, so I know I'm going to slip up around non-native English speaking friends too.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for mentioning the game on both LJ and DW! It's also a delight to read your lovely post of FK enthusiasms, entirely aside from my moderator-ing. :-) From the wrong angles, FK can be so absurd; yet from the right ones, it is so beautifully powerful.

You're very welcome! On the face of things, FK sounds like the silliest show ever (and it can be, at times, oh yes), but when you look at the actors and the characterization, it's an amazing piece of work.

I still have strong feelings about the way they ended the show...

And that's all I'm going to say, because otherwise I'd go into full blown "I didn't want them to end it that way!" rant mode.

Forever Knight was one of my favorite shows in the 90's.

Oh, believe me, my sympathy for you is epic. As are my rants on the subject of how they ended that show, because it involves a lot of profanity, and pages upon pages of excoriation for Jim Parriott. Not that he reads them, because obviously he doesn't care what I think. (Or any of the fans of Forever Knight. Jerk.)

Long story short (too late): I think you and I would probably have a whole lot of similar things to say about the subject, and we could probably go on rant after rant about it. I love Natalie (and Janette and Tracy, but especially Natalie) as much as Iove Elizabeth Weir, and the ending? Oh, the ending.

I'm cutting myself short, because, yes. I haven't written the reams of fix-it fic that I have for SGA and SG1, but I've definitely written my fix-its and my comfort AUs. I think I might have to go and read one of them again to make myself feel better.

Now I'm curious as to what fix-it, comfort AU's you'd rec. Because it's been YEARS since I've read any Forever Knight fic. (Well, other than the Forever Knight / Space 1999 crossover. Yes, I kid you not. It exists. I couldn't resist reading it because Space 1999 was my first big damn Sci-Fi t.v. show love, along with re-runs of Star Trek and Lost In Space.)

If you might be interested in playing in the FK ficathon, you'd be very welcome to request/write stories that ignore the ending, or replace the ending, or fix the ending, or whatever your preferred approach is! You don't have to acknowledge the finale -- or even third season -- at all.

Very personally, my own imagination lives in FK's first season and first hiatus (the eighteen months between season one and season two, when it went from CBS to syndication). I love the story and characters far beyond TPTB's ultimate inability to fulfill their creations.
