I wear a size 16, approximately, and like plain colors, unpatterned, fitted clothing (usually pants and shirts) made with natural fibers (maybe 5% or 10% spandex for stretch). ( Further details! )
As an alternative to Target's cheap t-shirts (I buy a lot of those, too), I have a bunch of this sort of Eddie Bauer basic long-sleeved tee. (And if you can get to an Eddie Bauer outlet, they're less expensive!)
Christopher and Banks (and their CJ Banks larger size store (my mom is a 16 and shops at both)) might work well for you. They have a variety of stuff - sometimes awesome, sometimes hideous, but I think it'll meet a lot of your needs and they're made pretty well and they frequently have massive sales. They're in several malls in your area.
This was my suggestion too. CJ Banks is very good about keeping plain color basics in stock - t-shirts, camisoles, etc. Very handy and far better quality than Lane Bryant IMNSHO. They're slightly more expensive but worth it. I've had less luck with their pants than with their tops. They do suffer from a bit of the applique disease when it comes to shirts, but they have basics too

I'm a tee shirt and jeans girl, and when I started working, I was looking for business casual pants and tops. Lands' End is now half my work wardrobe. They have the nice and clean, simple and classic looks that I prefer. Guaranteed returns. And free hemming on pants from their website. Being 5'1", I've always had trouble shopping retail stores--sometimes I feel like I live in a land of giants. Lands' End can be pricey but I shop the clearance items with my cashback rewards from credit cards. Their fine gauge knit tops are comfy.
I do plain black or brown or gray pants with white shirts. The lack of variety means it's sort of my "uniform" but it gives a really focused professional look and means I don't have to buy a lot of different clothes. I'd rather spend a little more on something nice that doesn't wear out
