Fringe 4.08: Back to Where You've Never Been (and universe color coding confusion)

Jan 16, 2012 14:06

My season one and two DVDs need to get here now. They were on backorder, which is very frustrating, but at $14/season, I suppose I can't complain too much. Even though I will.

Okay, I am confused. Can someone please let me know if I'm right as to which universe is which?

I will spoiler cut, though, as I discuss the current season. )

I also agree with your mum. I was just starting to not want fauxlivia to die in a fire and live happily ever after with AlternativeLee. And, of course, I am over invested in Peter/Olivia... ;)

I love Fauxlivia! I even loved her when she was evil, because she was clearly working from intentions she thought were good, and she thought she had no other choice. And then she changed and grew, and that was just amazing.

And then she and Lee with no glasses started doing some sort of a relationship thing, and Charlie went on a date with bug girl (for all we know, she'll turn out to be a real bug; this is Fringe, after all), and it was all very interesting! The non-shippy parts were even more interesting, tbh, but we're discussing shipping in this comment. :)

The Amberverse is an alternate timeline of the Red/Blue verses of previous seasons. They are slightly different because both Peter's died.

Due to stuff that happens in season four Peter concludes that The Amberverse is a different universe from the Red/Blue ones - that's why he's trying to get back. But that hasn't actually been confirmed on screen.

And yes to everything else you've said. I do hope the get back to the Blue Verse though - that one's still my favourite (albeit with expanded roles for Astrid & Nina, hopefully).

That depends on if you go with the idea that each split in a timeline creates a different universe. That's how I've generally seen the Fringe universes to operate. The Redverse has different events in its past that would have caused its timeline and the Blueverse timeline to split.

In which case, the Amberverse universes are separate universes entirely, because of the timeline splitting. They use the timeline terminology, probably to make it easier on everyone watching to differentiate the Blueverse and Redverse from the two Amberverses.

Science fiction terminology is very fluid, isn't it?

Personally, I'm kinda hoping the Amberverse (current verse) isn't some alternate universe, but just what happened to the regular blueverse/redverse when Peter was erased from time. And that, eventually, these people will all get their memories back from the 'normal' verses (and Alt!Livia will get her son back somehow), but still keep all the new memories they've made. That way, we get to keep all the awesome developments from this season like field!Astrid and the Olivia/Lincoln partnership and Olivia's relationship with Nina, while still getting all those old connections back.

As far as Nina is concerned, I'm hoping she's not evil but is just trying to give Amberverse!Olivia the abilities of Blueverse!Olivia because that's what she'll need to survive. How she knows Olivia is meant to have these powers...maybe one of the Observers told her or maybe there was a prophecy of some kind, idk, but I'd like to think that's the reason she's hurting Olivia: because it's the only way to save her.

These are all of my hopes too! (Except I have no idea which ship would survive that merger inside my head (Olivia/Peter vs. Olivia/Lincoln, biggest death match in this decade, lol))

Resolve it with a threesome!

lol, for once, I wouldn't be torn at all since I don't ship Olivia/Peter but I do ship Olivia/Lincoln in each and every verse. Though, as long as alt!Liv/alt!Lincoln end up together, I'll be good :)
