The place I can go where I'm guaranteed to find stories about women and their relationships? That's femslash.
I think this is what ultimately draws me to femslash, as well. I love female characters and I'm always more invested in their storylines/relationships/POVs. Yes, there is het fic that's told from the woman's POV and some of it is really good but femslash GUARANTEES that. It guarantees that women will be front and center and drive the action. That's what I read fic for, tbh: To see things told from the perspectives of the fictional women I adore and who, more often than not, are ignored or pushed into the background by the canon.
I have to say, I think this is a horrible question, because for a lot of us, "the obvious" is the entire point. There are so few gay couples in canon, even fewer gay female couples, and almost no HAPPY gay female couples (think Willow/Tara, Xena/Gabrielle, whatever the hell the two girls are on Glee), that femslash really is the only game in town.
It's kind of why I answered it the way I did. :) So, yes, I agree.
Brittany and Santana on Glee. Santana is a lesbian who's not as in the closet as she thinks she is, Brittany is bisexual, and I somehow got invested in their story, and am trying not too hope too hard that the series gives them an actual happy relationship.
Actually, it's not "somehow." I blame the fandom for getting me invested. There's some really good fanfic out there, including someone who wrote about a hundred thousand words on Santana accepting herself.

I like femslash, there are a few pairings I ship, but for some reason I mostly go for gen fic if I want to read about women and their relationships. I don't know why.
Well, gen fic has one aspect of women's relationships with each other. I'm just not interested in only reading about women having non-sexual or non-romantic relationships with each other. :)
