Thanks to everyone who joined us at Green Lane Park Saturday!

As Jesse said, everyone who couldn't make it was missed, but we know you were there in spirit. Haukafell had the pleasure of hosting Rob, Jon and Brandy and their kids, Chris L and his kids, our SCA chum Maggie, Brian and Sharon and new local Heathen couples Mike and Melissa (plus kids ( Read more... )

"hit of the day"? I'd say yes indeed! Glad you folks could make it and that you had a good time. It really was a perfect day. Though it seems I need to share the kubb rules I use with Jon and you all. There are some subtle differences.

"official Haukafell men's uniform".

Ha! It's good to see another kindred with a uniform. Apparently Vingolf's unofficial uniform is a black tee-shirt and jeans. The ladies uniform is all black. LOL!

Well....I dunno. We do wear a lot of black too. But indeed, it seems now like our menfolk may be brown and our womenfolk green. Fitting considering what tree huggers we are maybe, but not a \m/ as you guys. :)

Sharon did indeed surprise me with the (gluten free) birthday cake, but someone else brought the chicken-and-pepper skewers.

And I, too, am looking forward to some more Kubb practice. I certainly need it! (As indicated by my oft repeated refrain of: "Oooh, there's *another* bad bounce!")

It was a fun day, thanks for the invite! And I heartily endorse the adoption of any uniform involving men in utilikilts. ;)

Thanks for coming out!
Glad you approve of the kilts, too. Of course, SCAdian women are smart that way. I dare say some just take them for granted since they see them so often (historically accurate or not).

...and that reminds me actually. I think the very first time I ever saw a UK was back in like 2001 when a team of Australians adopted them as their uniform for some TV show where the contestants had to build stuff and use it to win a race. I think it was a boat or something. I just remember seeing them running down the beach in their UKs, carrying all their gear and thinking, "these guys are going to kick ass".

The Flying Karamazof Bros. also use UKs as their stage uniform. I guess the pockets hold a lot of balls. (please jokes here would be far too easy!)

I saw my first Utilikilt when I went to Albany to visit my cousin and her husband-- pretty much the first year they were out, I think 2000? He preferred them for summer wear over shorts, even on the job! (He owns a small landscaping business.) Some of the guys on his crew had adopted the kilt as well.

Kilts of just about any variety make me happy, though I'm definitely a fan of the utilikilt (moreso than what most guys wear in the SCA, oy.)
