See, this is one of the reasons I got out of the fandom. A female character does something wrong and death and decay should rain down on them, a male character does something wrong and they're just misunderstood or it is just a personal flaw that makes them more adorable. Thanks but no thanks, I think I'll stay over in my corner.
Yep. Due to recent events in the manga, apparently Sakura is now the Antichrist. There's more than a hint of pairing crap about it (people hoping Naruto will dump the pink bitch for Hinata or whoever), but generally it's because she's, well, Sakura, and she can't say a damn thing without the fanpoodles picking her up on it. She's getting bashed even when she's not in the bloody manga. Add to this the weekly 'Kishi is a sexist / fails at writing women' thread where the usual misogynist dickwads crawl out of the woodwork, and it makes me wonder why I'm still involved with the fandom. The hatred of women is just...wow. I don't know if Bleach fans are as bad, although judging by the Orihime bashing that goes on, it's possible.
Kisame is ace. His fight with Gai was what they call on TV Tropes a 'Crowning Moment of Awesome'.
Doh, just... just doh. I really wish I had something more intelligent to say but when it comes to this and to Sakura specifically I'm just at the worlds end. Enough with the damn hate people. She's not going anywhere, just shut your pie hole and read something else if she offends you so damn much.
I pulled out of fandom, wow, um, too long ago and kinda dropped the series as a whole after the whole "Um, lol, no they didn't all die! Just kidding!" Backbone man, grow one. Please.
They beat Sasori fair and square, but he did allow himself to be killed, if I remember correctly... it's been years. It was only the last blow, though, he certainly wasn't letting them win the whole thing.
I haven't been reading Naruto lately (I don't really want to anymore, despite adoring the characters, new and old), but yeah. The "confession" was a bit horrible, but it certainly wasn't all that bad!
I would say I can't believe the fandom for acting this way, but knowing how ridiculous and misogynistic the fandom is, I am unfortunately unsurprised. The teenage fanboys are exactly the sort of scum I'd imagine making those deserves to get raped comments.
Why did Sasori want to die, though? It just seems weird to me that a man who tried to become a human puppet, who wanted to transcend humanity and become something else, would suddenly give up.
Plus - and I'm not saying this about you - I get cagey about people using that argument cos it's often used by people who hate Sakura and refuse to accept her moment of glory, and/or want to discredit her and Chiyo.
He only then realized what love was (or rather, realized that what he felt from his grandmother was love all along, that it was what he craved from his missing parents, but never recognized) in his final moments, and wanted to die for his grandmother's sake. It was an oddly-placed epiphany, but these things don't exactly have a reputation for being well-timed, so there you go. ^^;
It was Chiyo herself who suggested it, if memory serves. But I suppose one could overlook that or discredit it as merely an optimistic theory?
I certainly do not wish to discredit them! One would have to blind to think that way.
That kind of ties in with my own interpretation, about Sasori realising he was human after all. I'm not a fan of his, but that bit was really poignant.
This is one part ship war, one part fandom holding female characters to impossibly high standards.
The former is self explanatory. Everybody from Naruto/Sasuke to Naruto/Hinata (D:) hates anything to do with Sakura being with Naruto.
The latter is something I've been incredibly frustrated by for a long time. Female characters, for some reason, get cross examined a lot more harshly than male characters do, sometimes to the degree where they just can't win at all unless they're no nonsense asskickers. You're either Lightning from FFXIII, or you're worthless.
In this particular instance, I understand being frustrated with how the women in Naruto have been portrayed. I've had a problem with that myself. But how about just saying that and not going completely overboard? Being reasonable is not a horrifying thing.

THIS SO MUCH. And not only "no-nonsense asskickers", but (more troublingly) "women who look and behave like men". I have seen people saying that Integra Wingates Hellsing is the ONLY good female anime character of EVER. And that makes me sad.
I presume they include Revy as well, since she's a hot woman with guns who kicks arse and takes names. Not bashing her or Integra, they're both ace, but it takes all sorts to make a world, you know?
Does Seras get bashed a lot, by any chance? I've watched a bit of Hellsing and I'm guessing fanbrats probably hate her because she's too close to Alucard or something.
Yes, Seras has lots of fans but she also has lots of haters. And many of them say she's slutty, idiotic and a skank because she has big tits and uses miniskirts, while hailing Saint Integra Hellsing as a parangon of feminist power and virtue and making her a Mary Sue. :/
I'm guessing that, as a Hinata fan, you've seen the ugly side of fandom feminism. Since she gets a lot of bashing too. I admit I dislike how some of her fans like to use her as a stick to beat Sakura with, particularly as both of them seem to get on well in canon (and they should do, they have more in common than people think), but some of the bashing the poor girl gets is horrendous. I don't like how Kishimoto has written her, but I certainly don't hate the character.
It's not just the fandom feminists who bash her, though, it's also the ugliest of misogynistic fanboys who think that if you don't have a bloody great pair of tits, you show any emotion besides anger and you're not spamming DBZ-esque attacks all over the place, you're nothing. And also that women shouldn't be ninja and should be in the kitchen hurr hurr.
They keep screaming that they're oh so feminist and that Kishimoto is the real woman-hater, but I don't believe them anymore because they keep bashing EVERY female on sight for things they've either done or not done,
( ... )
apparently having a vagina in Naruto (and Bleach unless it's Rukia) fandoms is a crime.
i like Sakura due to her flaws, weaknesses and well, she's so real and human (hence, makes her appear weak) but no matter how much i like her, i guess my tolerance for Naruto and its crazy fandom has reached its limit. D: it's just ... crazy. i so much agree with you that no matter what she does, Sakura will be hated.
also! this post makes me realize that most female characters i like are those who suffer so much bashing. D:

Also completely OT; Kisame so needs more love. <3

So yeah, once again, Sakura can't win.
You've summed it up quite nicely right there.
