"They're like, fictional characters, come ONNNNN!"

But sometimes they're not. Sometimes they're real people who actually DO have feelings, feelings that might be hurt if they saw all the vitrol being slung at them by butthurt shippers and entitled fans ( Read more... )

People really do that? That's just fucked up, there's really no amount of justification for that. I could understand if they were fictional characters, but these are two people who actually exist and have feelings.

Seriously, do these fans realize they couldn't even ship Zutara if it wasn't for Mike and Bryan?

Yeah. I don't care to google for the examples because excessive rage is bad for your blood pressure, but I've seen it. A lot.

I don't know. Maybe they do but their butthurt is stronger than reason, or they insist Bryke WANTED Zutara to happen but were overwhelmed by TEH HOTTNESS and went with the kiddie-safe Maiko and Kataaang. (You know, with the staying over at her house and the obvious bedhead the next day, and the hot steamy sweaty dancing action XD)

Yeah, that's pretty delusional. I think it was fairly obvious that Katara and Aang were going to get together from the very beginning.

I don't get the obsession people have with their favorite pairings being canon are not. Katara and Zuko not getting together in canon doesn't mean you can't ship them anymore.

And that Zuko had zero interest in Katara anyway. Any involvement with her was related to Aang and Aang alone.

Exactly! I guess fanonshippers just have this complex thinking the canonshippers are the Fandom Police and will spank them if they don't ship canon, but those types only make up a very small percentage of fandom as a whole.

(really, all they did was confirm that Zutara would never in a million years be canon while poking fun at the more rabid fans

I respectfully disagree. I thought that the episode The Ember Island Players mocked the Zutara ship in a nasty way (for the record, I'm a Kataang shipper, not a Zutara shipper).

However, I do agree with everything else that you're saying. The behaviour of these bashers is disgusting, offensive and unacceptable.

Canon!Zutarians stage a full frontal assault on Mike and Bryan's houses. Death threats. Likening them to nasty villains who drink the tears of heartbroken Zutara fans

That is just plain sick and wrong. Nobody deserves to be treated like this, and it's sickening that there are people like that out there.

Hmm, really? I saw it as them mocking the fandom's most common rendition of it (melodramatic Katara lusting after Zuko's hot body), not the ship itself.

And over a damn ship, too. Not classy at all, fandom, not classy at all.

Perhaps they were mocking the fandom, and not the ship. Even sp, I thought the mocking was rather hurtful.

You're right, the bashers had no right to become so abusive towards Mike and Bryan. They had no right to treat Mike and Bryan like this, especially not over a ship.

Hmm, different interpretations? Every time I see it I think "oh they're just messing around", and they could've done a lot worse.

I just hope none of them carry out the acts they depict in their fanfics.

Honestly, the way some Avatar fans treat Bryke makes me really hate the fandom. I don't participate much in it because of it, more so then all the pairing drama; I just lurk and eventually hope that they'll all get over themselves and their stupid ships not happening in cannon and act like real fans.

It makes me worry about my own writing; what if I get those fans who'll hate me just because I don't pair up two characters they want to see together? It makes me angry, and honestly a little afraid.

(BTW, no offense to any Zutara fans; heck, I like both Kataang and Zutara and can see the awesomeness in both ships...but seriously, I've had enough of the wank about it all already.)

Yeah, I heard J.K. Rowling got a ton of this kinda crap when she revealed what the canon pairings are.

Fanfics where butthurt Canon!Zutarians stage a full frontal assault on Mike and Bryan's houses.

Oh gawd, I misread that as people ACTUALLY showing up at their houses. O_O (But I wouldn't be surprised if some of 'em actually wanted to!)

Between this, the Twihaters who wish rape and death on Stephenie Meyer and the butthurt H/Hr fans who scream at JKR... huh, that's a lot of batshit. And then they accuse Kataang/Twitards/OBHWF people of being idiots?

Pffft. These are cases when both sides are crazy, but the haters look even madder.
