Wow. What a pile of shit. "Female characters are never interesting/sweet/realistic/strong/cool/etc enough, they're all so boring/bland/bitchy/annoying/Mary Sues!!! Good female characters don't exist anymore!" Lame excuse is lame, fanbutts, your standards are just too damn high.

I don't think people have to have a good reason for only liking yaoi. If that's what floats their boat, good for them. When I'm in a mood for yaoi maybe I'll check out their stuff. But I really wish they wouldn't insult every female character there is, because then I start wondering if the problem is really them.

"I don't think people have to have a good reason for only liking yaoi."

Of course they don't. What confuses me is why for the rabid types, liking yaoi seems to automatically mean hating female characters.

It happens in het too, any female outside of the one in the pairing gets hated on (Harry Potter fandom is the most obvious example, as usually any girl who isn't Hermione, from Ginny even on down to Luna Lovegood, is bashed.)

Seriously, it's all very perplexing.

Hell, it even happens in het to characters of any gender. Anyone who conflits with the OTP or isn't conventionally 'pretty' enough gets character-bashing treatment in fic. I've seen it happen to Sanji and Usopp so many times. (Poor Usopp...)

I'll honestly never understand it either, especially since I tend to like multiple ships, even two ships that are mutually exclusive. You don't have to hate anyone to support your favorite pairing. It kinda detracts from it if you do.

Oh, no, I didn't think you did. But it sounds like this person is very defensive about it. (To be fair, maybe someone did ask, but still.)

Yeah, I've seen the het version in a couple of my fandoms. It drives me crazy, because often the guy isn't with any of the girls in canon, but all of them still get bashed.

That has always frightened me.

I wonder if they hold real-life girls to that same standard? ._.;;

That's why a lot of people avoid the yaoi/shounen-ai fandom, even if they might like the stuff.

Interesting female characters? Let's see. Mara of the Acoma. Many of the female characters in the Baldur's Gate series were also very interesting.

One of the most bland characters (in my personal opinion) I came across was actually male.
