I dislike Azula because I think she's a bit too evil. I wish they would show a bit more of a human side of her, because it's hard to root for someone who seems to have no goal besides hurting others. Just one speck of humanity. She's fun to watch but I can't say I'd be too mad if someone took her down.
Oh, I can agree that she needs some humanity. But I'm thinking it might show up in the series at some point in time, considering the creators of Avatar do a really good job in making most of their characters realistic, despite the bending and all :D
I agree, the characters are all well fleshed out but I guess I can sum it in one phrase. Character objective. Azula's character objective needs to be more compelling before I can fangirl her. I don’t get why she is so evil and cruel, even as a child. Ozai seems to be to have been abused by his father at least emotionally but Azula has everything. Even when Zuko was around, she was practically assured of being heiress, she's a prodigy and even Ursa seemed to try to like her. Since usually characters go in the opposite direction of their entrance into the story, Azula must go from having everything to losing something BIG. She will become more interesting once her life isn't so complete and she has something beyond using the people around her as target practice on her mind.
Being that she has been in Episode 2.1-Evil. Episode 2.3-Even more evil. episode 2.7-Little and really evil. episode 2.8-Spawn of Satan Evil (striking at Iroh)
I have a feeling she's not heading for saint-hood anytime soon.
... so, if the character is good, wholesome, and an alright fighter, she's a weakling. If she's full of spark, firepower, and has an attitude that could make grown men shit themselves, she's a bitch. And if by some chance, the girl character is good at fighting and has an attitude that can go both ways, she's a Canon Sue.
My God, so much WORD!! And not just for Avatar fandon (which I must admit, I'm not very familar with); every single fandom, whether for a book, TV series, movie, anime or video game proscribes to that view. It's really sad; females characters can't seem to win.
"However, although she has that, she's pretty much been shown as just iredeemable evil, and I just don't think that's going to change. If it does, there will definitely be solid case to defend her. Zuko for example, showed signs of being 'not really evil' from episode one of season one. But I just can't see what's defendable about a character who will strike down anyone out of pure wickedness, even their own family. Zhao was never redeemed either. So liking her because 'villains are fun,' is one thing, but I don't think defending her from hatred is going to be an easy cause for you. Generally I'm a fan of villains, but I can't even get myself to like her
