I definitely agree with your Tomoe rant. The OAVs are the only parts of Kenshin I've seen (well, I've seen the first 4 eps of the series, but still ^^;), so I'm not in the fandom, but I've heard other reports of Tomoe bashing. People try to make her out like Kenshin didn't want anything to do with her, but I think it's especially obvious that he loved her. Tomoe did not seduce him into doing something he didn't want to do. And like you said, if it wasn't for her Kenshin might not have ended up being who he is in the series.

I think a lot of people dislike Kanan because she's viewed as a threat to Hakkai and Gojyo's relationship. Yes, even though she's dead. Hey, no one said these girls made sense.
The way I see it, Hakkai loved Kanan then and still loves her now. He also loves Gojyo now. Simple as that. Hakkai is not a man that opens his heart to people easily - something like gender, honestly, is hardly a concern to him. It's very obvious that Hakkai connects with people on a mental rather than physical level. Each person he lets that close to himself holds a unique place in his heart.
Very good point. I haven't met many Hakkai/Gojyo fans who have bashed Kanan for that reason (most tend to ignore her), but I wouldn't be surprised if I ever did meet a few, especially with the Saiyuki fanbase growing bigger. I have met a Yaone/Hakkai fan who bashed her, though. :/
Ehehe...I'm one of the few who's not big on Hakkai/Gojyo, I'm afraid to say. XD ::waves Hakkai/Yaone, Hakkai/Kanan, and Hakkai/Goku-shipper flags and ducks flying objects:: But Hakkai/Gojyo does make the most sense out of the "Hakkaixsomeone besides Kanan"-pairings.
Also, I don't think what people realize about Tomoe is that if it weren't for her, Kenshin would not be the clumsy wanderer we all know and love. If she didn't come along, Kenshin would have probably died young on an assassin mission or have gone totally and utterly insane from all the lives he took.
Tomoe...seducing Kenshin?! She HATED him in the beginning. If I recall correctly, wasn't it Kenshin who made the first move? And Tomoe tried to SAVE Kenshin? I don't think that this is a woman with loose morals.
I don't understand why people have to chose between Kaoru/Kenshin or Tomoe/Kenshin. Both women were very important to him. Actually, Kenshin has a lot of women who shaped him to who he is.
I know, I hate people who twists the facts around. ><
That's true, too. I think it's mainly his romantic life that really perks up a few people though, which is why the women that *did* impact Kenshin's life tend to be neglected at times.
I mean, people who hate Kaoru and like Tomoe/Kenshin have one problem: Tomoe is DEAD. Kenshin won't end up with her unless he decided to be a necrophiliac.
Eh...I like both Kaoru and Tomoe. One of the few people who probably do. Tomoe made a few mistakes and she paid for it just like Kenshin did.
It is a tragic love story that probably wasn't unheard of. Women were often used as spies during the Tokugawa Era. And they were supposed to get information through any means possible...which is some cases included sleeping with the person they spied on.
I remember someone attacking the Yaone/Kougajii pairing in Saiyuki on one of the mailing lists I belong. This person was like, "Yaone/Kougajii could NOT work, because Yaone is like, so clingy. It's "Lord Kougajii" this and "Lord Kougajii" that

Ack, really? *cringes* ><
... EXCUSE ME? She calls Lirin, "Lady Lirin." Does that mean she's "too attached" to Lirin? Pfft. I'm a big fan of Yaone/Kougajii and even Yaone/Hakkai. And you're right- she's DEVOTED to Kougajii, but so is Doku. And even if she did lose her brain after losing to Hakkai, so? All of the characters have their fair share of melodrama. I mean, Hakkai tried to rip his own eyeball out. But instead of being like, "OMG Hakkai, stop being melodramatic," the fangirls feel sorry for him. Argh.
-Very- true.
People probably hate her because "Homura belongs to Goku." Oh wait- doesn't Goku also belong to Sanzo? Yeah.
And I agree wholeheartily with that. XD ::tries not to let inner-39 fan loose::
As for Kanan- eh. I don't really care about her character. To me, she was very

Yeah... I don't HATE Kanan by any means. She must have been quite an amazing girl if Hakkai loved her with all his heart. I'm just irked by what happened. >.<
